my sentiments exactly. I would love to hear about it! Would I love to do it? Um, I would LOVE to HEAR about it |
The Marathon itself, is the victory lap.
The real marathon is the training you do to get there.
RUN, not to add days to your life, but to add life to your days

Moderately pleased:
1500 went out in 2:06 for the first 800, which pretty much destroyed my plans. I ran the last 700 in another 2:06, for a 4:12. One of my teammates joked that I ran even splits. I don't think that I had 4:05 in my legs today, but 4:08 might have been possible with better pacing. There was nobody around my pace, so it was a lonely race after the first two laps.
I dropped out of the 5k at 2 miles, but I was right on 16 pace and feeling strong. My IT band started tightening up, and I didn't want to take any chances, since it's been giving me grief for a while. Basically, it was a confidence boosting workout, so I'll say "mission accomplished." I just wanted to know what 76 second pace felt like on the track, since I've never done a track 5k.
It's tough to have your track opener at a last chance meet. It was mostly very fast guys, with a few people trying to be heroes. This should be a good starting point for one month of serious speedwork.
Next weekend is off. The week after that, I'll be rabbiting a 3k and running a 5k. The week after that I may do a road mile. Then it's just one more week till the last track meet of the season. |
| What was the secret, they wanted to know; in a thousand different ways they wanted to know The Secret. And not one of them was prepared, truly prepared to believe that it had not so much to do with chemicals and zippy mental tricks as with that most unprofound and sometimes heart-rending process of removing, molecule by molecule, the very tough rubber that comprised the bottoms of his training shoes. The Trial of Miles, Miles of Trials. How could they be expected to understand that? -John Parker |
