Sub-90 Minutes for the Half Marathon (2012) (Read 6766 times)

The 2011 thread was great. I know I learned a ton (even if I didn't make it to the start line). Hopefully there's as much enthusiasm going into 2012 for this goal, and we can help each other get there.

As always, training tips, struggles, insights, race experiences from first timers to old goats are much appreciated.

We're on the road to nowhere, let's find out where it goes
    Troy.

1:38:02 at this year's OUC Half, so I'm going to try to take the leap this year.

Put me down for the 2012 OUC Half in December.

It should be mathematical, but it's not.

I ran 1:34:56 in the spring, so I think I've got a reasonable shot at this in 2012.  Race TBD, but you can add me to the list.

"Because in the end, you won't remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn.  Climb that goddamn mountain."

Having succeeded at sub 90 this year I'm now not in quite the shape I was earlier in the year (injury troubles), so getting back to that fitness would be good.

I'm signed up for the (inaugural) Cambridge HM - my home town - on 11th of March so we'll see how I get on then.

            I'm in.

I need to get this done while I'm still young. Wink

            2013

            3000 miles

            Sub 19:00 for 5K  05-03-13 Clee Prom 5K - 19:00:66 that was bloody close!

            Sub-40:00 for 10K 17-03-13 Gainsborough 10K - 39:43

            Sub 88:00 for HM

I'll attempt. BMO Vancouver Half Marathon on May 6.

Current Struggles: still injured from July!! (sadly, ran my debut HM in October after not setting foot on land for 10 weeks. Needless to say, it did not go as planned, especially when the calf muscle locked with 5 km to go and I could do nothing but helplessly watch as waves and waves of runners passed me by...)

Anybody else? Surely there's more of you out there...can't let those sub 20 5k peeps have all the fun....and some of you sub 20 5k seekin' peeps are probably in this sub 90 target range too?

Guilty.  I ran a 20:12 5k and 1:34 1/2 last spring. I would definitely love to break 1:30 this year.

There are altogether too many "Goal in 2012" threads floating about.  I'm in. Big grin

Not sure when it's going to happen, though.  I don't intend to race any HMs until the latter part of 2012.

Okay, in. Race tbd. Now let go of my arm.

                        Yeah, what he said.

A list of my PRs in a misguided attempt to impress people that do not care.

Ran a 20:00 5K this weekend, is it possible I could run the Yeungling Shamrock Half in March 2012 sub 90? Probably a long shot, but I may try!

Count me in...again! Fell short in 2011 with a 1:31:37 at the Hartford half-marathon (1:31:32 there in 2010).

No horseshoes and hand grenades in 2012 if I can help it.

First attempt in March and will confirm that later.

                            Thanks!

                              Holy crap.  Fast.

I am in as well. I have done 12 marathons, multiple 5K's, but I have never run a half marathon. I assume it's like a never ending tempo run. I am signed up for the pancake flat Wrightsville Beach half in March, and Grandma's full marathon in June. I think I should be able to do it, I have done 13 mile MP runs in 1:34:00 without straining while training for a full. People tell me the half is much less painful and less exhausting than the full, that would be nice.
