Do tell if you have been there or live there. What is it like?

We live about an hour from Greensboro, and I travel there for business a few times a year..... It's a nice Southern Town, seems to be on the lower side of any real bad crime, Really pretty in the fall....Nice " Upper Middle Class" town.

Why?

Well, my husband has been interviewing with someone for a possibe relocation for a job there. I'm in PA and am quite nervous about maybe moving.

With 3 kids I worry about the obvious, crime, schools, crime, schools-lol that sort of thing. I'm an avid gardener so I worry about having someplace to do that as well. I'm also spoiled in where I live I could run anytime day or night and virtually never have to worry about getting mugged/picked up etc..

I was born and Raised in PA myself. I moved to NC 12 years ago and NEVER looked back. It is Wonderful here. I don't know too much about the schools, but I am sure you could do the resarch on that stuff, but I think you would transition well here. As for your Gardening: How's about being able to grow something YEAR ROUND? and still have the change of Seasons but just on a much calmer level. I understand your concerns, and I remember when I moved here I cried for a month straight, mainly because I left the only town I ever knew to move totally out of my comfort zone. It's scary, but as I said, you will have no worries finding your comfort zone in Greensboro. It's a much smaller city than Where I live ( Charlotte) and lot's less violent crime there. My town is over a million people, so yep, we gots us a little crime in certain parts.

If you do decide to move here, you won't regret it.... few ever do. AND you have me just an hour away, so that leads to all kinds of possible running meetups! Smile

Awww, that makes me feel great! Thank you..I am so worried.. That will be me, crying for a month straight..however, gardening year round sounds perfect!! Especiallly at the chance to have a running partner every once in awhile! You would have to be my first official friend then! That's the whole thing- moving from my comfort zone of quaint little Pennsyltucky..lol

Well, it is still in the talks but I got punchy when they actually called my husbands references today. Surprised

I lived in Winston-Salem for several years. The schools in Greensboro are among the best in the country, and crime won't be much of an issue in any area you'll live.

yeah, i used to live in winston too. it's right next to greensboro. i think you'll like it if you end up moving there. weather's good, plenty of shopping/restaurants etc. and the traffic isn't too bad.

I lived in Greensboro for 7 years. It is a nice place to live for the most part. I found the summers to way too hot, and "summer" runs from the end May to the middle of September. The winters are very nice for running with temps in the 40's and 50's. Since the I-40 re-construction has been mostly finished traffic is not too bad.

I dont think the schools are al that great. Teacher salaries are very low. Someone set fire fire to one of the High Schools and burned it to the ground! The Guilford County still has some major contrversies with busing kids. (social engineering)

The Triad does remain one of the most segregated places in the country, but Gboro isn't as bad as Winston in that respect. Def try to get your kids into one of the schools named in my link above, as there are some bad ones around too.

I grew up in NC and miss it to pieces! Housing is cheap, the weather is great, the people are friendly. I've never lived in G'boro, but my old gf went to UNC Greensboro, so I've spent some time there. It's a great little city. I went to high school in Winston, the city next door. All in all, it's a wonderful place, but you'll only like it as much as you decide you will.
