So would anyone care to explain VO2... (Read 2245 times)

I did a VO2 submax test on Thursday on a treadmill and got a score of 79.8 which apparently is elite. I'm not sure what the units of measurement following the 79.8 were, though. Tongue If the units were in ml/kg/min then would the result be close to that of an actual VO2 max test?

Only if there was low humidity. See, I'm part of the problem.

I ran a mile and I liked it, liked it, liked it.

If even a fraction of the stuff you post is true, you are incredibly fortunate and gifted. Never let a bitter middle aged "never-been" beat you down. Your fastest days are ahead of you. Mine are a bittersweet memory Undecided

So, what improves your VO2? Time training? Increased base miles? Faster runs?
Running at roughly 5k pace. Run intervals like 800's or 1000's. Probably the hardest kind of training.

This does not improve your true VO2max. This just improves your speed and fitness. It allows you to achieve closer to your true VO2max. But, for the most part, you VO2max is fixed for life.

Please stop saying that. Even if its true.

Remember, when you are first starting out, when you attempt to run a max workout, your effort is limited by things other than a low VO2max. You don't have strength, efficiency, technique, HTFU, etc. You go out and try to max out, but fail to get to your maximum for other reasons. So you struggle through a 45 minute 5k and get some sort of VO2max estimate of 10, but that does not represent your true VO2max. With workouts like what Carps described, you get stronger, tougher, faster. You lose weight. You bring that 5ktime down to 16 minutes. You are not improving your true VO2max. You are just improving your ability to realize it.

The old 45 minute to 16 minute improvement curve. Heh.
