Upcoming DFW Area Races (Read 887 times)

Tour des Fleurs 20k September 22 (Dallas - White Rock) Rockledge Rumble November? (Grapevine/Flower Mound) - I don't know if/when they are planning on doing it this year, but if they do it, I'm there
These look interesting, too. I need to leak to my wife how much I've spent on race signups and shoes this week. After the backlash settles down, I'll look at signing up for those.
Bonkin - I'm looking forward to hearing how the Butterfly Boogie goes. I was thinking of doing that one, but ended up with other commitments that weekend. I'd consider it for next year though.
I'll post a report when I'm done. I debated whether to sign up for it or not, but I have a goal of racing at least once a month this year and that's was one of the few that made sense schedule wise.

It's not the heat, it's the stupidity.

When it’s all said and done, will you have said more than you’ve done?

    You'll ruin your knees!

So it definitely lookes like a FE (Forumite Encouter)! Once it gets closer we can compare notes on where/when to meet up before the race! Rockledge Rumble will probably be November 10th, sandwiched inbetween the Rocky Raccoon 50k (Huntsville State Park) and the Ultracentric 24/48 Hour race in Grapevine. BTW, if you want to see some really great ultrarunners (not a trail event), come out to the UltraCentric in November...last year, we had Dean Karnazes, Pam Reed and other notables. It's a 48 hour party with runners coming through continuously! Lynn B

Good god, that's a lot of races!! Cool

          Sounds like a plan, Lynn.

I know, I sometimes wonder when my enthusiasm is going to surpass my ability. Only one way to find out though.

I've found that my frugality and my wife's desire to occasionally see me on Saturday mornings trumps my enthusiasm and ability. I was planning on running about 1 per month for the rest of the year too, but I think I'll probably end up take June and August off and spend time at home instead.

I might have to find a way to stop by there this time around. I don't think I'm quite up to running for 6 hours+ straight yet, but I'm curious how that kind of event gets done. Plus I've got family nearby and can probably make an excuse to be in the area anyway. I remember running a cross country meet at that park back in high school. I hated it. The grass was too tall and coarse, and it was miserably hot.

Sounds like a good idea. I'll be the really quiet guy that appears to be too sleepy to walk, let alone run. I always made fun of my grandparents and parents for going to bed at 10 and waking up at 5, and here I'm doing the same thing before hitting 30. Yikes.
Looks like registration is closed for the El Scorcho! I guess I got signed up in the nick of time. I noticed that tschepsit and jlynnbob are signed up. Did you make it, Modal?

Sorry, Perfesser, didn't realize you were wanting to run this or I would've reserved you a spot. They were more than halfway full when you told us about it. I checked their blog on Monday and apparently they had a ton of signups from Friday through the weekend.

I did this one with a bunch of family last year, and it sounds like we'll be doing it again this year. It's all on concrete roads with a decent hill right at the halfway point. I won my age group, so it's not terribly competitive. They had a band and barbecue and stuff, but I was too warm to be interested in eating anything. They were very good about having plenty of extra water. They also had recliner races, which was fun to watch. The sponsoring organization non-profit beneficiary sustained a bunch of flood damage on Monday, so I'm sure they could use any extra revenue that the run might bring in.
