Boarding Schools...... (Read 1436 times)

For a few years the hockey pants I wore in our mens' league were a pair of bright red ones I got hand me down from my buddy who picked them up at a Cornell women's hockey tag sale. It's like I know you.

some kind of happiness is measured out in miles...

I work as an academic adviser in an elite institution.

They let you telecommute from Tennessee?

      (Now I feel bad.)

Tomorrow never comes.  Eventually never happens.
Today.  Now.  Shut up and start.

My wife went to an ivy and I still can't break four hours in the marathon...

          Menace to Sobriety

The Ivies give out scholarships based on need only.  Or so the rules say.

I used to live near Harvard Square and once dated a girl who went to Cornell on a hockey I mean need based scholarship so I obviously know what I'm talking about.

They needed her to play hockey, right?  Technically, all athletic scholarships are based on need.

Janie, today I quit my job. And then I told my boss to go f*** himself, and then I blackmailed him for almost sixty thousand dollars. Pass the asparagus.

              Congrats, my man.

I wrote that comment simply so I could say "my wife" for the first time on running ahead.

And I, sir, saw what you did.

                Extremist

Some random and probably meaningless personal data.  My daughter went to a public HS (considered by some to be the most "ghetto" school in town), and then attended an Ivy and was in athletics.  She worked summers as a farm laborer.  She can talk to a plumber.  I see no indication of haughtiness in her, except with regard to her parents' wine selection skills.  How any of this contributes to the discussion, I don't know.

Half marathons are more fun and 10% as much pain. (Spaniel)

Aww, so sweet.  I think this Royal wedding stuff has me feeling all sentimental.   Congrats Seanv!    Smile

You're not running the right marathons.

Look in local running club websites for a nearby 5K marathon, and do some mile repeats, and I think you can get it this summer.

It's a 5k. It hurt like hell...then I tried to pick it up. The end.

Here's one advice from a parent. Parents need to understand that boarding schools focus on the outer person and are not concerned with the inner health. If your teen is healthy and happy and prepared to work hard, they are likely to receive an excellent all-round education in a boarding school and be well placed to find a place in the college of their choice.
