I'm scared and intrigued all at the same time. Kind of like how the dude's helmet in Full Metal Jacket said "Born to kill" and had a peace sign.

No need to be scared of law-abiding citizens, when was the last time you heard of someone with a legal concealed carry going off their rocker?
Frankly I'm just informing the thought line here. While in general I practice concealed carry if I was running in an area I really felt compelled to carry...well...I'd run somewhere else.
I do know someone who saved himself from a pit bull mix this way though, he was under his car fixing it when the dog attacked him so he would have been screwed otherwise.

I know what you mean about looking like the bad guy. I have a next door neighbor who thinks our yard is their dogs toilet. I told them about it nicely several times. The last time I talked to them (nicely!) about it was the last time she talked to me, 2 years ago. Dog still poops in my yard, too. Oh well. I hate to make the dog a victim but the doggie mace just might be the best solution. I'll think about it.

and also i wanted to tell ya. don't leave it up to the responsibility of the owner to have 100% control over his animals. even if the owner says they won't bite - this is every owners statement, don't trust that. and even if the owner says he will keep his dogs tied - this is the second statement, don't trust that either. the one day you get to go out for a nice run and your all excited about will be the day the dogs get loose and now that they have already "sized" you up, the next encounter, contact will be made. protect yourself. and if you do decide to get the spray, do not hesitate during their charge. this is when they need to learn your not there for an ass chewing! good luck! hope your healthy soon!
and 37 minutes is 37 minutes in the correct direction.
You'll ruin your knees!
...returning the doggie deposit back to the front stoop of the dog's owner will send a strong and odiferous message.
i sacrificed the gift
Feb 2009 was the last time it happened in my neighborhood -- an NRA member with legal concealed carry shot someone dead over a parking space dispute at nowhere other than Panera.
I hear Panera food is quite good.
I feel your pain! I run with my dog (who unfortunately is dog aggressive). Every route away from my house has at least one neighbor who does not adhere to our leash laws. I have started carrying Direct stop and Pepper Spray on our runs. Direct stop (citronella spray) is a friendly alternative to Pepper Spray. I have also heard a squirt gun with lemon juice will do the trick as well. You can avoid the unpleasant conversation with your neighbor without causing harm to the dogs. But if the dogs are truly aggressive ( and not just giving a warning) I would definitely carry a Pepper Spray backup.
Panera -Sounds like " It's to die for"
(sorry couldn't resist)
What does Tunis make?
But their parking is murder.
It's a 5k. It hurt like hell...then I tried to pick it up. The end.
....point being that you are a lot more likely to be victimized by a criminal that one of the many legal carriers around you every day. Crackpot in above situation will rot in prison and such cases are extraordinarily rare. This is the first time someone's actually known of one to point out that was not clearly a defensive situation.
Do not attempt.

Here's a purported story of a "defensive" situation involving a guy, allegedly with a concealed carry, trying to gun down a bunch of strangers...

Not absolutely sure that possession of a permit magically makes someone more ethical and moral.

If you read the whole article, he had a history of mental illness. In any jurisdiction with which I have ever seen the regs, this would disqualify him from having a permit. There is clearly more going on here than the article communicates.
1) People who have permits go through background checks. So many bad characters are eliminated by default.
2) People planning on committing crimes don't bother with legal technicalities like having permits.
3) Committing a crime while in posession of a permit actually increases your legal liabilities, it does NOT protect you in any way. One more reason not to bother with a permit if you want to shoot people or behave recklessly.
Nowhere did I say it makes one more ethical or moral. However, having one means no known history of violent crime or mental illness (again, not sure what happened in the story you referenced). It also brings down the eye of the law on you, and requires you to submit your fingerprints to the police.
If you plan on doing something stupid with a gun, it makes little sense to do something that will increase your legal punishment and give the cops your fingerprints so they can lift them from the scene and identify you. There are thousands of murders in this country every year, the firearm is seldom legally owned and for the person to be carrying it in public legally in vanishingly rare. Converesly, tens if not hundreds of thousands of people carry legally every day and cases of misuse are extremely rare.
Having a permit may not make you more ethical or moral, but it certainly doesn't make you inherently dangerous or scary either. This is an ill-informed stereotype that gets old. Cases like have been shared here make the news specifically because of their rarity; it is not very newsworthy for a criminal to not have a permit, or for a permit carrier to defend themselves in the rare cases it is necessary because such cases do not feed the sensationalizing appetite of the media.
No offense.
So we get off leash dogs AND right to bear arms AND panera in this thread.
Someone tie it into race banditry, runwalking, or ipods. Please.
Ultima tastes like failure.

It's actually not a widely held stereotype at all. Most people can discern law-abiding gun owners from criminal whackos pretty easily and know that they have nothing to fear from the former. You stated that the prior story was the first time anyone had actually known of a case where someone with a permit to carry went rogue and murdered someone and AP produced another example in like 30 seconds in response. You've been trolling for a gun law debate for weeks and you finally got one.
Yawn already.
Whenever someone goes nuts and murders or maims a bunch of people by gunfire it makes the news, regardless whether the suspect had a permit to carry. I hardly see this as a case of the liberal media trying to invent a story. He shot 6 people and killed one of them. That's news by most standards.
