Nashvile Ctry 1/2 and Marathon (Read 769 times)

yeah, for me it is mostly a taste thing.

Some flavors are worse than others. I can't stomach the lemon-lime. (And I'm OK with almost any sports drink.) Orange and fruit punch are not so bad.

It was pretty good Marathon to me. I am from Finland and did the run during the same trip as I went for a meeting in US. That was year 2007 run though, so I don't know if the route is the same this year..

The weather was perfect then. I read again my own comments from this race (I write comments always because it feels nice to read them later) and they are:

The weather was perfect. Sun was shining and practically no wind. The biggest "problem" was the hills in the first half. It seemed that it goes up and down all the time. After the first half the route became flat. It also went by the river for a while. At the end, the hills came back again. Here is the pic from the race and Finish line.

Music was a great thing. I have good memories from that run. Can recommend it.

The weather was perfect for standing around and watching a marathon run by. Sun was shining and practically no wind.

IIRC, though, 2007 had the best weather of the three years I've run it: 2006 was too hot, 2008 was too humid (though at least the forecast thunderstorms didn't materialize), and 2009 was WAY too hot.

Edit -- hmm, 2006 + 2007 + 2008 + 2009 = 3 years? Oops. I meant, 2007 was too hot, 2008 was a bit humid, but not bad (the best of the past 3 years), and 2009 was WAY too hot.

2009 was the hottest CMM on record, with the noontime temp at 90 degrees and humid.  Much of the race was in the high 70s and low 80s, with no cloud or tree cover.  Prior to that, the hottest year was 2001, with the noontime temp of 88 degrees and humid (first marathon I ever ran).
How bad are the hills, really? I live in Nashville and everywhere is hilly. Are they gentle, normal hills or are they the ohmygod I'm dying! hills that are on some of our greenways?

They're normal...as opposed to the abnormal hills of Percy Warner. I've never really thought of the CMM course being that hilly. I mean, there are a handful of inclines, but nothing that I would think of as a "big hill."

                    We've Got Big Hills

With the new course changes, there are three memorable hills.  They are not ridiculous by any means, as Tanya points out (when she should instead be updating her blog).  The hills are at mile 3 (Demonbreun), mile 17 (leaving Metro Center) and mile 19 (leaving the Farmer's Market).  Much of the rest of the first 19 miles are rolly polly, but not terrible.

i would add that the hill coming back up Belmont (mile 6 or 8ish) is notable as well.  pretty long hill.

Mile 17 - yeah that's where my left calf gave out in '07. That hill sucked the life out of me. I owe CMM some serious payback. Soon. Very soon.

Wanna run it with me this year?

Seriously thinking about it. Running a trail one on 4/3 (assuming the rivers aren't too swollen), the new Evansville one on 4/10. Might make for a nice tripple in the month. Interesting. Very interesting.

You won't bring that 90 degree and humid again this year? You have a rep ya know.
