On a side note, you can go to a basketball court and generally get a pickup game going. If you're on a trail or in an area where a lot of people run, I think you should be able to get a pickup race going. Just start asking people if they want to race and see what happens.

What a wonderful idea!

I really would like to give it a shot. The main problem is that even though we're generally a social bunch of people, there is a high likelihood that someone out on the road is doing a specific workout. Many would be unwilling to throw down a race out of nowhere because it would probably adversely affect another workout.

I do think I might give it a shot at some point, though.

I agree, but it's illegal in Boulder... no racing with 4 or more people, even pick up races for fun. How's that for stupid?

I still havn't done a pc trail run but they have great trail runs. I mostly use zinsli because it lists lots of local runs from 5ks to marathons and some ultras.

The nuances of conversation are often lost in digital communications so I can't tell for sure. This is a joke, right?

Nope... unfortunately it's a real law here in the Peoples Republic of Boulder. All competitive events are banned, an unofficial race is considered 4 or more people.

Competitive Events. The Open Space and Mountain Parks Department shall not authorize
competitive events on Open Space and Mountain Parks lands. The Department will establish
regulatory authority prohibiting competitive events.

You're not catchin' the vibe, man. Competition is, like, bad for self esteem and stuff.

Here. Try this brownie.

LOL!!!

It's only on our Open Space and Mountain Parks land... the trail runners are the ones that get screwed. Our open space covers about 100,000 acres though, so it's a pretty big chunk of land. Road races and things like that are fine. We actually have one of the largest 10k races in the world, at 50,000 entrants.

Probably have more ultra and trail runners per capita than any place else on earth (the local trail running group has 1400 members) and we can't even hold a race here. Other than that, it's a great place to run Big grin
