Kentucky Hiking (Read 202 times)

My husband & I are celebrating our 5th anniversary in April and have decided to make our vacation a healthy one.  We want to go hiking in Kentucky.  I'm hoping someone will have some suggestions for me.

We aren't serious hikers, we are just looking to do some day hikes that don't require tremendous amounts of gear and technical skill.  We are going to just let this vacation take us where it may, but we want a starting point.  If we decide after the first day of hiking that we've had enough of that area or someone has a suggestion for a different area, we will move on.  We are only planning to make reservations for the first night & then wing it from there.

Any suggestions on trails, lodging or other info would be great.  I've done some online searching but hope for some info from people that have been there.

    Thanks!

The area around Red River Gorge / Natural Bridge State Park is really nice.  I think NBSP has a nice lodge too, though I've only camped there.

Tons of trails in the area... cool cliffs, natural arches, etc.  By late April the Rhododendron's may even be starting to bloom... I can't remember exactly when that happened... it's been a long time since I've been there.
