Imminent Catastrophe

Garmin Express is working nicely with RA now for my Fenix. Thanks Eric!

      Thanks Eric,

this may be the clue. I've bought recently a ThinkPad 410 . Since then I have problems, however I thought they are because of Windows 8.1. I need a shorter cable.

      greetings,

Help : )  Uploading from my Garmin 610 to RA is not working.  Hasn't worked since mid June - probably due to updating Garmin Express in order to load new maps on my Nuvi.

I've uninstalled Garmin Express and re-installed Garmin Communicator plugin (4.2.0.0).  I've also reinstalled the Garmin ANT Agent.  The upload function on RA finds older workouts but not those since June 15th (about the time I updated the Nuvi). I have Windows 7 and use Firefox.

With Garmin Express installed, I am able to upload to Garmin Connect by clicking the sync button in Garmin Express but it no longer automatically transfers workouts when the watch is near the computer. I downloaded a month's worth of files and uploaded them into RA because the blank calendar was sad : )  Any thoughts on getting this working again?  Thanks!

Is the problem with uploading to RA once you've loaded garmin express specific to a single computer?

If I load garmin express on one computer in my house, my assumption is that I would still be able to load from my 210 to another computer.  Correct?  Don't see how that would not be the case, but I don't want to take a chance just yet.

I've only tried it on one computer so far.

I had to completely uninstall Garmin Express, the Communicator Plugin, and the Ant Agent and then reinstall the Ant Agent and Communicator Plugin to get mine working again. I had done the same thing. I needed to install a new map on my Nuvi and didn't realize it was going to break uploads to RA.

Still Bluesky, yes it is specific to a single computer. If you have two computers and use one for uploading to RA and load Garmin Express on another computer to use with other Garmin products you should be OK.

                Thanks!

I uninstalled Garmin Communicator, Garmin Express and ant agent then reinstalled ant agent and it's working again : )

Garmin connect is still letting me upload using the old format, so I'll continue to use that - no need to use garmin express.

And there are only a few items that garmin gives me that RA does not - the one feature I'm using in garmin right now that RA doesn't have is the stride length from the foot pod.  I'm having a bit of a problem with my IT Band and it's helpful to see stride length as an indicator of return to normalcy.

                    Interesting developments in Garmin Express.

For obvious reasons similar features would be nice for RA. But I have to wonder, based on earlier commentary about Garmin going from an open development platform to a closed paid/partnered platform, what this means for the future. Eventually new devices will be Express only. I believe some already are.

My 610 has begun to have problems during runs and I'd like to try a firmware update but can't without Garmin Express. Any word on if we're close to G Express working with RA?  RA is my best, most complete log and I don't want to have an interruption.  I would move on from the  Garmin watch (which I love) & run w/ an app on my phone before I'll buy another watch & hand enter data.

Thanks for any update on how this is coming. (I'll ask Garmin as well.)

Update - spent about an hr installing Express, updating, unintalling, reinstalling Connect & ANT Agent and it seems to be working. Hopefully software update was worthwhile! Thx for the help here.

I have Garmin express on my computer and am still able to upload to ra using the plugin.  Maybe what we should do is start a kickstarter campaign to get the 5k for Eric to purchase the license connection.

I'd rather see a campaign that would cripple or at least not feed the Garmin machine.

Starting small, it could be the formation of a single entity that would pay the Garmin ransom and then enable developers to work under their umbrella. (probably prohibited under some fine or not-so-fine print)

I haven't download Garmin Express, however, I had an issue this morning when I downloaded my workout from my watch it put it in Garmin Connect and not Garmin Training Center.  To fix this issue, I went to Garmin Connect, opened that activity and then exported the TCX file. I was then able to upload it into RunningAhead.com and Import it in Garmin Training Center.  Don't know if this will help with some of the Garmin Express issues others are having.  I am not ready to give up Training Center yet, so I am not upgrading at this time.

When my Garmin 205 dies, I will simply switch to a GPS watch from some other company.  As an individual (or as a running community) I won't stand for being held captive to their greed/blackmail/extortion.
