Resons to hold race
* Economic impact
* If it will create a bright spot for people in city (Holding the Giants game may bring back a feeling of normal - While the jets dispear)
* Ego of mayor
Reasons not to hold
* Strain on valuable resources in short supply (people, gas, water)
* Negative impact on people morale
* Saftey for runners
* safety of runners
* ability of runners an volunteers to make it to race
On some level, I would think New Yorkers want to say FU Sandy - We are recovering and going on with normal life ... Bitch. I am not sure if the marathon helps that or not.

Doc, my tooth hurts
I was just listening to the radio and reports are that it is cancelled. It was on twitter, so obviously take it with a grain of salt.
Local news here is reporting it has been canceled.

well, looks like the whiney bitches win.
thanks a lot guys. I'm sure we all in NYC will be just sooooooo much better off now.
they really handled this poorly. I strongly believe the race should not be run. That resources should be given to those in need. I think the majority of participants would donate their entry fees to relief. So the water, food, etc..could go to those that need it.
So they finally cancel it after those that are coming from out of town are likely already in NYC or en route. Personally, I dont think I would have made the trip, but Im sure many did.

I am speechless.
You have internet access. You probably arent in the group that will be able to benefit from the freed up resources. If you are posting from the roof of your house surrounded by sewage and sharks, I apologize.
Lets see if the WFAN and the New York Post take up the charge of canceling the Giants game.
Honestly, I think this was probably for the best, the level of vitriol was getting very extreme.
Oh my...are you serious? If news reports are correct...they are kicking people who've lost their homes out of hotels to free up rooms for runners.
It's just a flippin' road race...there's, like, 4,000 other ones going on this weekend, and probably 300 freakin' marathons -- go somewhere else and run one if it's that important to you. I'll even bet they have the NY marathon again next year.
Did an angel whisper in your ear and hold you close and take away your fear...In those long last moments
