Question for Hippie Jeff (and anyone else) (Read 628 times)

I've got a fever...

    Jeff, So on the sophomore race times thread, you were faster than me across the board, but we were in the same ballpark. I'm curious as to how fast you were by the time you were a HS senior. I ask this because I've always felt I didn't improve nearly as much as I should have through HS (in fact, I went backwards as a junior despite having no injuries). Since we had close times as sophomores, I'm curious. Times are Soph --> Junior --> Senior --> any subsequent PR's 800m: 2:06 -->2:08 --> 2:04 1600m: 4:45 -->4:47 --> 4:42 -->4:37 (college frosh solo time trial) 3200m: 10:17 -->10:22 --> 10:06 5k XC: 17:13 -->17:25 --> 16:47 -->16:24 (HS senior road race) I will say this for senior Jeff; I ran much smarter and way more consistently, even if the times didn't drop by much.

    On your deathbed, you won't wish that you'd spent more time at the office.  But you will wish that you'd spent more time running.  Because if you had, you wouldn't be on your deathbed.

    Why is it sideways?

      Hey Jeff, I did improve a bit more. My times ended up being Soph--> Senior --> College PR's (ran for four years, one year at DI, three at DIII) 400: 51.5 (senior year HS) 800 2:02 --> 1:58 --> 2:29 1000m (never ran 800m in college) 1600: 4:40 --> 4:29 --> 3:59 1500m 3200: 10:11 --> 9:48 --> 9:06 3000m (could never figure this distance out) 3 mile XC 16:10 -->15:25 --> 15:09 5000m 8k XC college PR 25:06 HS program was 35-40 mpw with lots of interval work. College was 65-75 mpw with emphasis on hills, tempos, LT stuff.
      Mishka-old log

        Here's mine...I thought I was a distance runner when I started. In the end, I never did quite figure out the XC thing. I suspect the course was short where I set my senior year XC PR. With a history of injuries, I was always afraid to put in significant summer miles before XC. Fr --> Soph --> Junior --> Senior --> Lifetime best 400m 54.3 --> 50.3 --> ? --> 48.3 --> 47.5 800m 2:01 --> 2:03 --> 1:52.8 --> 1:51.8 --> 1:48.0 1600m 4:49 --> DNR --> DNR --> DNR --> 4:09* 5000 XC 17:54 --> DNR --> 17:00 --> 16:42** --> 16:01 (roads) * 1600 PR is a conversion from 3:52 1500m...approximately 4:10 mile ** Suspected short course...next best time was 16:59 on a legit course.
          Hmm. Lets see what I can recall. This won't be exact. I didn't take track very seriously and never ran XC. Too bad I figured out too lat that running was my best sport. Fr --> Soph --> Junior --> Senior --> 400m 59.9-->56.7-->52.7(r)--DNR* 800m 2:09-->2:05(r)--2:03--DNR* mile DNR-->DNR-->4:48-->4:49* *Spent most of senior year injured or otherwise distracted.

          I've got a fever...

            Looks like my rate of improvement soph to senior HS was pretty sucktastic. But looking at you guys, I will say that I was fortunate to not have injuries over that time period. But it was an injury that brought my fast years to a close -- a tibial stress fracture, along with the simultaneous discovery of alcohol (the cause of and solution to all of life's problems) during sophomore year college saw to that.
