Irish Road Rover Race Report (Read 314 times)

First really nice day of spring - sunny and in the 50s.  This is the first time I have run this race, and I have to say it was a great course.  Fast and flat - except the part where we had to run up Munjoy Hill around the first mile and running back up around the Gazeebo shortly afterward.  However, we got to make most of that up on the way back by running back down Munjoy.  This race was more of a time trial for me as I am not peaked right now.  I just wanted to gauge my current fitness level.  This was probably a 95% effort.  Couldn't enjoy the post race festivities because I had to be at work at noon!

    Quarter Mile Splits:

    1:14   Out like a shot!

1:23   Wisely take foot off accelerator

    1:26

    1:32   Here's Munjoy Hill!

    1:31

1:33   Back up the other side of the Gazeebo

1:24   Starting to catch up to guys who might have gone out too fast

    1:28

    1:24

1:19   Flying back down Munjoy Hill!

    1:28

1:30   Start to shut it down

:41     Last .11 - I usually sprint to the finish here, but here I just coasted in (intentionally).  I even let a guy pass me!  I am very pleased with this effort.  The miles are starting to pay off.  I definitely felt the difference in stamina from the 5K I ran in January (18:22 and gasping for air at the end).  Already looking forward to my next race - a 5 miler in April.
