The knee high tube socks with shorts (cut-off denim jeans) were definitely a fashion statement, especially when worn with a t-shirt with some stupid picture or saying silk screened on it (Remember "Dy-no-Mite!")?
I was a Converse Chuck Taylor All-Star man, myself (black hi-tops only). The problem was , they were $10.00 a pair!! Big money - had to save all of the paper route money, or later all tips from bussing tables for them.
