Crystal City 5k Fridays! (Read 629 times)

sincerely silly

About an hour before tonight's race I decided to register (to force myself to run today...and if I had it might've only been like 2 miles) and it was a really nice laid back thing.  I was expecting t to be really disorganized, but it wasn't at all and it was still a nice atmosphere.  I'd recommend it to any beginning runners in the DC metro area...relaxed, fun, and flat. :-) The bag check is a little sketch, but at least it's there.  Complimentary showers afterwards and a happy hour too (I didn't go though).

I also liked how the registration an hour before actually worked!  I was skeptical. =P But they had iPads at the event pulling up the online registrations.  Also on site registration.

I get the feeling other people might disagree but I had fun...I'm going to try and make one or two more this month!  It's chip timed and I found it soooo much easier to run with a ton of other people than I do alone.  Even if it is $20 a race...

    shin splints are my nemesis

I did one or two of these last year.  I wanted to do more, but from what I remember, the weather was sketchy a lot of the weekends or I couldn't get out of work early enough.  But, I remember it being a good race - well run, crowded but not too crowded, easy to get to, etc.

I'm thinking maybe we should try to revive the D.C. forum.  It seems like a lot of people have good race reports to share.

      2012 PRs:
      5Kish: 19:21 (Course probably short)

      10K: coming soon

      10M: 1:08:50
      Half Mar.: 1:34:16

      Mar.: 3:36:49 (Survivor: Boston Marathon)

FYI, I posted a race report in the D.C. forum if anyone's interested.
