Well, I am taking a couple days off, because my achilles is bothering. It actually has been bothering me a bit for a while, but I figured it was something that would just get better. When I woke up this morning it was hurting more than normal, so I decided to rest for a bit. Unless, someone has any good advice about achilles tendonitis.
If your Achilles is acting up, speed training is the last thing you want to do. The only form of "speed" training I found you can still perform while Achilles is bothering you is step running. No point working furiously blindly, following some bogus schedule, hurting yourself further only to become the fittest person among the spectators.
Most of the issue is probably stemming from weak and/or tight calf muscles. Rest and ice it until the pain subsides then focus on strengthening the calf muscles. If you want to keep the cardio going, focus on the bike and/or elliptical. Anything non-impact. If your achilles is tight/sore after the XT-ing, you may want to take a few days off until the pain subsides. Ideally, you want to keep this regimine going for 4-6 weeks. If your achilles is tight/sore in the morning when you wake up, you know you still have a ways to go until you should get back out there running. Good luck.
4-6 weeks? I hope not. Good thing I like to ride my bike.
