Forums >Racing>What is my real BQ time?
Can anyone help me get this straight? Below is the table and the link to the Boston site but I am having trouble with the following statement.
Based on the fact that my upcoming marathon is in 2014, it means that race would qualify me fo the 2015 Boston. So even though I will be 43 for the upcoming marathon, I would be 45 on the day of the 2015 Boston Marathon. Based on the line above my real BQ time would be 3:25, not 3:15.
Only asking because I am coming off Achilles problems and even though I have been training for the 3:15 pace I am a little behind where I would like to be and that will be a struggle. I would much rather plan to start at 3:20 - 3:23 pace and reassess at the half if I can pick up the pace as opposed to going out at 3:13 pace and blowing up in the second half.

Yup, it's 3:25. You'll be 45 the day you run Boston in 2015.
Thanks. Thought I was reading it right but started to overthink things.
Take note. It's not this way for NYCM qualification. You need to run the qualifying time for your age on the day of your qualifying race. If you turn 40 the week before the race you will have had to qualify as a 39 year old.

Important fact. For 2014, first people who beat BQ by 10 minutes were accepted. Then those who beat BQ by 5 minutes. Finally anyone who beat BQ by 2:43 were accepted. That is all. 2015 might h
ave less applicants than the year after the bombing. Also, 3:25:01 does not meet BQ.
