Long runs = funny taste in mouth...what is that? (Read 2739 times)

... I chew gum when I run always...so, it even overpowers the gum. I normally drink gatorade or powerade before runs and hit water fountains along my routes. On both 16's, I ate Clif Shot Blocks at 8 miles...
Do you notice the taste when you run without any of this stuff to chew or eat? I dunno, I routinely run having had nothing but water for a while (4 - 18 hours), and I never take in anything but water (and electrolyte capsules in hot weather) on training runs. Did you ever get this taste at high altitude? Sometimes high acidity can contribute to mountain sickness for climbers... I wonder if the oxygen demand and metabolism of running could change the ph of the body's fluids...
