Upcoming marathon advice (Read 231 times)

I am not going to get too technical since spaniel covered some great points.  My experience with my second marathon was that I was really fast at short distances, even 10k's included.  I was even really quick on my half mara times too I guess.  Problem was, I never ran more than 18 miles during THAT training cycle for my long runs.  My thought was my speed and strength were more than enough to carry me from mile 18-26   I was wrong.  On race day I felt strong and ran a great half but after mile 18 of course I started falling apart.  While I did not have any injuries, I just didn't have the gas tank from running the long runs.  So if you want some advice from me,  MAKE SURE TO DO THE LONG RUNS!!!! Easy or not, they are necessary.  Not only for confidence but for getting the body used to plodding along for several hours.  I think you will have a great race day if you keep training hard.  Good luck !!!
