Sammy Mellor is shown leading at 22 miles of the 8th running of the Boston Marathon. This amazing photo shows wonderful detail of children, bicyclists and horse-drawn carriages accompanying the leader.

Mile 22. He could see the CITGO sign from there!

He dropped out right after this.

And it kind of looks like mile 21, right near Boston College and the top of Heartbreak. But I'm sure a lot has changed since then.

Seriously though - if you are in 2nd place in that race how do you ever expect to catch the leader through that mass of people?
