water stashing (Read 877 times)

silly question, where do you stash water on long runs? Do you hide it where no one will see? Do people think you are strange for drinking a bottle "found" behind a bench or tree?? haha....just wondering Smile
I buy my water and sports drink in sealed bottles and just toss them in the ditch along my route the night before. By morning they are nice and cool and no one bothers them because they just sort of blend in with the other litter. Roll eyes There aren't many around to judge my behavior at 6:00 AM and even if there were I really don't care much about what they think. Tom
I put it somewhere where I'll remember it. All fence posts pretty much look all alike. Undecided The trail I run is frequented by runners so it isn't uncommon to see other bottles put out. It's an unwritten rule that you leave the others alone and pretty much everyone abides by that.

I rarely stash anymore; normally, I either run where I can get water along the way (store/home/car) or else I carry it with me or else I do without. When I did use to stash it, I would bury it by the side of the road. Kept people from stealing it, kept animals away, and kept the water cool if I had to run in heat. Just remember to put a plastic bag around it and to have a corner of the bag sticking out so that it's easy to find.

I stash it somewhat hidden, but by a marker like a sign, or a shrubbery that stands out.

I've never stashed water for long runs. The majority of my long runs are done on a path which has at least 3 water fountains along the way. Plus I always carry a 20-oz hydration pack of gatorade. For the occassion that my long run takes me away from civilization (and water fountains), I'll carry a 20-oz bottle of water in my hand, and drink that first, then move on to the hydration pack.

I actually stash my water in Zip-loc bags, and just carry a bottle with me that I can refill from the bags. The advantage is that the bags are easy to clean up en route, since I can just dump them and jam it in my pocket. I stash it so that it can't easily be seen if you don't know it's there, by covering it with leaves or pine needles or rocks, then I just remember the landmark. I've only lost one bag of water that way!

Usually in my left hand. Easy to find that way.
