Beat Mike. PR. Sub 3.
So, you'd be happy with a 2:57 if Mike somehow blew up?
And, it's gonna take sub 2:50 to beat Mike.

We can talk all day about what we'd like to do. I know what I want. You know what I want. There is no need to formally discuss it. It will or won't happen in Baystate, but I'm doing my damndest to get myself ready for the task.
Time for the relaunch. Stay tuned....
More Cowbell!
That's like asking Coe if he was happy with his gold medal despite the fact that a) Ovett blew up and b) he didn't set on OR or WR. The correct answer is Duh.
MTA: It's just an analogy. I'm not equating Mikeymike and The Thunder with Coe and Ovet..
20th Century: Is ancient history 21st Century: 5k: 19:42 |10k: 43:00
You didn't just compare Thunder to Sebastian Coe, did you?
MTA: THANK GOD YOU MODIFIED!!
Heh.
I had some wacked out knee pain yesterday that really scared me. But worked it out today. It's a razor's edge.
Good to see the knee pain got worked out. I wish I could say the same thing about my achilles. It's freakin me out. I was going good and hoping for a sub 2:45 on 10/10 but can't even walk without stiffness. Not good. At a loss on where to go over the next 4 weeks. Achilles are a @#*$ and take forever to heal properly. Been trying to ice, roll, stretch, run easy (laid off all tempo or intervals) and XT. Is it a waste even trying to salvage something for 10/10?
mbher, if the achilles injury is not getting any better and you don't know root cause, I think the answer is pretty obvious. Figure out what is causing the injury, i.e. is this a muslce balance issue, a form issue, etc. Speaking from personal experience, I'm just recently recovering from an anterior tibial tendon issue that took 4+ months to recover from. Almost 3 of them were trying various things to identify root cause and fix. Once I had a fix, recovery was actually pretty quick, the bigger problem was I lost so much time trying to identify the problem.
2012 Goals: Run more trails.
Everything is on target for my goal of a sub 2:55 on October 3rd. Racing a half marathon on Sunday, with a goal of 1:21:30. Have been hitting all my miles/workouts/paces, including a 10 x 800 Yasso workout last week where I averaged 2:51 and negative splits. Feeling good and excited for the half this Sunday and the goal marathon on 10/3!
Racing an all out half three weeks before goal race might not be the best idea. When I did my half 3 weeks before Boston, I ran the first 10 miles @ GMP, the finshed the last 5k hard.
Interesting that you have a goal of 1:21:30 in your half and your goal at Wineglass is sub-2:55. My best race EVER was a 25k back in March that was equivalent to a 1:21:58. You should set your sights higher (lower). I'm planning on shooting for a sub-2:50 (2:49:59 is the goal). The WIneglass course seems to be setup of a great even paced race.
Just thought it notable that if A1 does not run another mile in 2010 as of today, he'll still average 10 miles per day for the entire year. Mammoth.
I have no business being here yet, but I need to stretch my brain around what it will eventually take. Carry on.
How do you spell orange?

Then again it might be. I'll find out on 9/26 and 10/17.
Yeah, I'm here for educational purposes only.
I've been doing it for the last couple of years and it seems to work for me.
Notice I used the word "might". Means it could be a good idea or a bad idea....

I have done it in the past and I like it. And it works for me. As far as my goals, the half is right in line with my current fitness level and recent 15k of 57:14, as well as my 10x800 Yasso workout at 2:51 average. I am being aggressive, but realistic, with the half goal, but more conservative with the marathon goal. I could probably set my goal at 2:52, and who know, that just might happen, but my plan is to pace at sub 2:55 thru the half, then negative split the second half for whatever I can. So my main goal is to come away with a sub 2:55, whether that is a 2:54:59, or a 2:51.
