I own a pair of spikes too (just because it was 16$ in runningwarehouse ). I was wondering if I should go for the 400m in the corp games, seems like I should will do some trials after HM. expecting 1:28, although don't feel that confident...

Good luck this weekend noyau. Looking forward to hearing how it goes. Anyone else racing this weekend?
John
"However just when I was thinking of using this I realized that I hadn't looked if there were any suitable races when I'll be visiting the UK over Spring Break. Lo and behold, it's the Liverpool half marathon. I was wanting to get a good half marathon in this year but couldn't find anything suitable and local until much later in the year"
I will be running in the Liverpool half so do confirm if you are and I can try and buy you a pint of something refreshing afterwards?
very nice course finishing by the mersey river...

Yup, signed up last week. Not really sure on goal time since I had rather conflicting workouts the last couple of weeks.
Last week I struggled (well, failed actually) to do 3 x 2mile at 6:26 pace (ended up at an average 6:30 pace for the first two, 6:35 for the second two and 6:40 for the third. 400m jog between each). Looks like this was too ambitious. This week I planned 2 x 3 mile at 6:35 to 6:40 pace or whatever good groove I could get into. This time it felt faster and easier and the miles got faster rather than slower (6:34, 6:23, 6:20 for the first 3 and then 6:26, 6:29, 6:24 for the last 3).In fact I wrapped up each 3 miles with the extra 200 to make it a 5k, 19:59 and 19:59. Just 2 minutes and 200m walk between the two. So I'm hoping I'll be closer to 1:25 than 1:30 for the half but I think it'll depend a lot on the day!
I'm planning two more workouts like this, and I have a 5 mile race next weekend, before the Liverpool half. Then I think I'm going to try Pete Magill's 5k plan for 11 weeks or so that culminate in a 5k, the State Street Mile and a 3k race in the span of 10 days.
Refreshments afterwards sound good. I believe there are pubs in Liverpool....
I ran a 25k in 1:38:17. Converts to a 37:04 10k and a 17:52 5k and a 1:21:58 HM according to Daniels'. Unfortunately this was a 5 loop course and had two 180 degree switchback which were a pace killer. Might have been able to go sub-1:38 if they weren't there. 5ks were: 19:33, 19:48, 19:42, 19:49 and 19:27. Last 10k in 39:16.
I think I'll be running a 4-miler on 3.20. Hope to run low 23's.
Run happy
great result DCV.
my race was better then expected: 1:26:10 with a 6 min of PB. I was expecting something around 1:28. became 35th out of 1000, 20th on my age group. It was a little warm, around 18-20 oC, but that's okey. I had chance to swim the day before the race, water was around 19oC, that was really good.
my splits are around (as far as I remember, didn't use a logger):
5k @ 19:50
10k @ 41:00
15k @ 1:01:00
fairly even pace. started fast, but felt good and keep going. My plan was a 42 min 10k, but I did manage to stay strong.
The finish was fast , passing 2-3 guys on th last 300m, the feeling amazing
nothing compares to a good race
Ran my 1st race of 2010 this year. Was wondering if all the miles I've put in would be worth it. I ran a 25k in 1:38:17. Converts to a 37:04 10k and a 17:52 5k and a 1:21:58 HM according to Daniels'. Wow. Way to go. That's some good runnin'
25k is a slightly unusual distance. Did they mark the half marathon point for you? It seems like you must have passed through in well under 1:23.
Congratulations to DCV and Noyau - that is some really impressive racing over the weekend. You guys are doing fantastically well and I am looking forward to reading about some more great results and goals achieved in the near future.

John,
It was a 5 loop course, with each loop being 5k. They only really had the 1,2 and 3 mile markers for the 5k. I didn't notice any other marks. According to my Garmin I went through 13 mlies in 1:22:05 I think. So I probably was high 1:22. I wish it was a half, because who cares about a 25k time. I definitely would like to get close to sub 1:20 in the next year or so, if possible.

17:59
So anticlimactic being that close.

Got the 5k time today. 17:59 So anticlimactic being that close.
Good one! Not sure why that's anticlimactic either, sounds like a thrilling race against the clock all the way to the line. If that was me the wait for the official results would be anxious though. For some reason my watch never seems to agree with the official time even if I press it exactly on the start and the finish. It would be VERY frustrating to get 17:59 on my watch and then see 18:00 on the official results.
Congratulations Amcniece,
17:59 - That is an absolutetly fantastic time. Hope the sub 38 10km is progressing well now that you have this one nailed doen so early.

I had hoped to go a bit further under 18:00 and was definitely missing my top gear. The lack of speed training probably had something to do with it. Official time was 17:59, I wasn't going to to post until I knew.
Race splits went 5:48, 5:50: 5:46 and then some change.
Thanks for the congrats!
another funny race:
not sure about the length, I will log it as 8,2k (that's what I measured) (claimed to be 8,5k)
4k down-hill, the rest is a perfectly flat course, result is 29:39.
that was funny to run 4k down-hill.
don't know what to say about the result, but the effort was good. I'am happy with it.
22 guys on my age groupe, became 18th or something (a 2:40 marathoner was 4th)
