Keep an eye on woot.com and groupon. Their offers last a short time, but refurbished 405 and 410 can be had for a decent price. Last price I remember was around $99. But read the reviews on the 405 first. The bezel doesn't work well when wet.

I'm sure the battery will not last long unless it doesn't have many miles. Mine last about 3 years. I now have the 410 and bought it for $200 at heartratemonitor.com via Amazon.com. I think 405s go for $120 new

My 405 pooped out after 3ish years as well. Lots of people (myself included) have had major issues with the 405. Battery life being one of them. In its last days, it wouldn't even last through a 4 hour marathon.

I would be wary of one that is 4 years old, just because the problems with it seem to worsen over time.

No. You can get a 60 or a 110 for just about $20-$40 more, new battery, warranty, and no miles!

And no "the bezel freaks out when it gets wet" issues.

Just in case you didn't catch the thread started today and are subscribed to this one, the 405 is on sport.woot.com today for $129 (refurbished).

IMHO, no amount of money spent on a 405 is worth it. I had one for about a week and brought it back. The bezel went crazy and so did I.

Funny, I just sold my 3 year old 405 on local Craigslist for $45 (upgraded to a 610 recently). I explained the issues with the bezel to the buyer, who was already familiar with them. He already owned a 910 but wanted the watch for his kids cross country team to use. If you lock the bezel during runs it wors okay, but it is very frustrating at times when you need to use it wet. I definitely would not have bought it new if I'd known about the issue, but I thought $45 was a fair price used, given it's age and heavy usage.

I've had a 405cx for two years now - it's better then my old Suunto T3.

The bezel is indeed unusable when wet - but it only gets wet when I wear long sleeves. If that is the case I just lock it up to one of the screens before I start my run.

I bought a 405 back when they first came out.  Hated the bezel, hated the complexity of getting to what you want.  I got SO mad at the stinkin' thing, it ruined my runs, and I quit using it after no more than 4 or 5 attempts.  Last spring, my husband started using it, and he likes it well enough, but he doesn't use even a fraction of its features.  He set it once for what he wanted, and doesn't mess with it at all.
