Canon Long Island Marathon of 2000, a really hot day in May on the Wantaugh parkway.

I remember a cross country meet with sleet/freezing rain that froze on my nose. We made it home ok.
At another cross country meet lightening hit the pond on the course during the JV boys race. The varsity boys had already run. They decided that the JV race was over and the girls were not racing that day. |

I was going to moan that I never have to run in bad weather, but Willamona's post reminded me of the twilight 5 miler I ran in Rockville MD in a horrendous lightning storm. It was a loop course and the fit didn't hit the shan until halfway, which meant that the only way to get back to safety was to hustle to the finish line. So there were some few thousand of us running in the dark w/constant flashes of lighning, cracks of thunder, and visions of an ugly "100 died today in Rockville" headline.
Now that I've survived, I have to say it was exciting though. |

Heh! I was just thinking of him when I read the title to this thread again and you beat me to the punch, Zoomy! That has to be the classic worst weather run ever. |

I still feel kinda bad that I didn't go cheer, but I didn't even want to stand outside in that crap, much less run in it--at least he was warm! |

I did 2/3rds of a triathlon in sleet and hail..a week and a half ago. The swim portion was inside. The bike portion was miserable! I, um, walked off the course in T2. |
coming up: Hartford marathon 10/11.

| Quote from Jill_B on 4/28/2008 at 11:39 AM: When I lived in NYC, I showed up for a 10K in central park when it was snowing and the roads hadn't been plowed yet. They decided that 6 inches of snow on a hilly course was too dangerous and turned it into a fun run. Usually the NYRRC races got 1000+ racers, this one had something like 60.

I have to agree - on Sunday morning, we had light rain and 50F in NYC. My running partner called to say she didn't want to run because of the weather. So, I went by myself. The park I run in usually has enough people running for a good race turnout and a pretty decent peloton, but because of the awful weather, the place was deserted. I'm not hardcore by any stretch of the imagination - but that was really pathetic.
