I am currently running 1,001 miles to raise money for Children's Cancer Association. To date, I am 44 days and 133 miles into the run, and more than $6,000 has been raised in pledges (100% of all pledges go to CCA). For more info, check out the website: http://www.1001miles.com.

Hi - I read your post with interest as a few years ago, before I really started getting into running, I decided to try to run 1000 miles for Cancer Research UK to raise £1000 (GBP). I raised the £1000 on the first day of my publicity and went on to raise £13,000 in total plus I got hooked on running (beware!!!). It was a great feeling and I fully understand the joy and pain you will go through. I went crazy with the running and it took me just 180 days to do the 1000 miles (far quicker than I ever imagined). I wish you every success with your challenge ... look out for the 'downer' when the challenge is complete. Regards Neil Gunn UK Smile

      Running ... just keep running!

Thanks for the well wishes, Neil and congratulations on your successful efforts on behalf of Cancer Research UK. Wow...180 days is impressive. I anticipate it will take me the full 365 to meet my goal (barring injury, of course). The upside to my slow but steady progress, I guess, is that I will have the full year to solicit pledges Smile

In response to a couple of people who have inquired about starting a fund raiser in their own home town, I have recently added a page to my fund raiser site where I offer to create and help maintain a fund raiser website (free of charge) for anyone who would like to run 1,001 miles for an organization that supports children with cancer in their community. I realize that Running Ahead does a remarkable job offering tracking tools and the like, and it is not my goal to replace those or steer people away from this site in any way; I just want to help people on the fund raising side of things. For more info, check out the page on my fund raising site and email me if you would like to set up a site of your own: http://www.1001miles.com/content/view/32/12/

600 miles down. 401 to go. We have received more than $9,000 in pledges. If you have an extra $20 or so laying around, please consider making a pledge to benefit Children's Cancer Association. You can pledge at www.1001miles.com. Thanks. Chris

I hit my first serious snag. I started taking on hills during my long runs with 500+ miles on my shoes, and now I am struggling with ITBS. I have read most if not all of the posts regarding ITBS on this board. I have bought new shoes, started stretching and using the foam roller. I have not been able to find consistent advice regarding rest. It seems that some people have had success while continuing to run while others have had to take long periods off in order to beat flare ups of ITBS. Since taking too long of a period off will compromise the the fundraiser goal, I am hoping to be able to cut back on miles while treating the problem with stretching, ice, the roller, etc. Can anyone offer advice on taking time off vs. cutting back on miles. I know everyone's experience is different, but I would still like to hear from those more experienced with this than I am. Thanks so much for your help.
