Lmao, I was scared I was in trouble. Tongue I LOVE my ferret. You'll find that with ferret owners - very few, but very dedicated. I'm not some crazy ferret lady though...my other one died (RIP) and he's all I've got in terms of pets. Imagine a hyper ball of energy that likes to bite toes and gets into everything. They're very intelligent, too - block off a room, and they'll become fixated with it because they're not allowed to get into it! They're sweet, though...give them time to get used to you and they'll ball up on the couch inside a blanket while you're watching TV. I had cats in the house when I was younger, but not now. I think they're okay but they're so independent. I want a pet to give you some love more often than a cat does. Oh, I'm rambling again. Why do you ask? You looking into one? Big grin

Where can I get one of these aloof cats? I want one. Wink Our cats can be so annoying...at least 2 of them always want to be ON us when we sit on the sofa or lay in bed. It's funny, I have never had a cat that wasn't more dog-like...maybe it's how we socialize them, or something. I have seen lots of those shy, standoffish cats, but our boys run up to greet people at the door. Our girl is a tad more reserved, but she never hides and often will sit on new people and purr like mad. Smile Ferrets are cool. A friend of mine has a couple and they crack me up. It's funny when they wrassle. Big grin

This might be it, Kirsten! In my experience with cats, the males are usually the love bugs. I adopted a brother/sister pair about eight years ago. The female will tolerate petting, but *hates* being picked up. She's generally disgruntled about our poor service - food delivered too slowly, etc. Smile On the other hand, her brother was so loving he was obnoxious (we lost him a few years ago). He'd wake me up by chewing on the hair by my ear. He'd lick people, lay all over people, etc. I really like the female - she's still around, still kind of grouchy, but sweet in her own way. She stays out of the way, but is always out around the fringes of our activity.

Hi Lauren, I know a friend who wanted to get a ferret, and that's the first I heard of them, and did not know that ferrets can be pets. I watched a few YouTubes of ferrets -- cat vs ferret Enjoy

I've known some cool cats (via my friends over the years) but usually I get scared that they'll scratch me, they notice, and then I end up getting scratched. Undecided Hahaha, yes! That's the "alligator roll"...listen closely, as they make little noises when they 'fight'. It's really cute. Smile Lisa, yes they can be wonderful pets. It's definitely a different type of pet (they sleep for most of the day, but when they awake...oh boy!) If your friend is a quirky person that doesn't mind his/her toes being mistaken for 'enemies' and getting nipped when the ferret is young, then I'd tell her to go for it. They're amazing little things. Smile LOL, that ferret is SO cute! He's nice and big and fluffy. Big grin Figures that the little guy would tunnel under the blanket and then hide. Now I'm going to watch more youtubes!

Same here. My cats are total snuggle muffins. I can barely read a book in peace.

I have had three ferrets and all three were different. My first one was my best one and the best behaved. She never nipped (only socked feet and not hard) and loved to be played with. Very friendly and very easily litter box trained. She was the best ferret ever and it was a hard day when I had to put her down in April. She had adrenal gland disease (like Lauren's ferret) and it finally got the best of her. She was nine when I had to make the decision to let her go. Still makes me sad thinking about it. One of the others I had was a demon. She would hide when it was time to go back into her cage for the night and I could never find her. One night I woke up with her attached to my eyebrow. She was not so nice. She was friendly and liked people but was kind of nippy. I ended up giving her away to someone because I didn't have the time to train her not to be so nippy. Like Lauren said they can make great pets. They do require some time to teach them right and wrong and can definitely be handful. I would love to get another one but will probably wait until we have kids and they want a pet. They are one of the most amusing pets to watch play with ther side wides hops and little chatter noises they make. And they will steal anything they want and can fit in their mouth can drag away. They do have an odor that some people don't like but if you keep their litter box cleaned and their bedding washed (they love hammocks and felt sleeping bags) you don't really notice their odor. They aren't a pet for everyone (my uncle is deathly afraid of them) but like they video shows they are a blast to watch when they are playing. Lauren: How is your ferret doing with the adrenal disease? It didn't slow mine down much until the end and that could have just been the age she was at that made her act that way. My friends didn't really like to hold her once she lost her hair. She was naked from the tail up to the shoulders. Not exactly the cutest animal but I still loved her.

Haha, I had two (one died of Adrenal Disease and we weren't onto it, most likely...she never lost her fur, but then her legs stopped functioning and we had to put her down) and this one is such a trooper. We found out he also has cancer in his spleen but he's still Bandit. We're scared to give him baths and such because he never liked water and used to poop because he was so scared! Now we just don't know how he'll react. He's ALOT calmer now. He doesn't nip at all, but then again he rarely gives 'kisses' either. He's not even interested in toes, haha. He doesn't like to be held for very long (but then again, he never has...he's a wriggler)...so we just leave him to his own devices. He gets out a bunch less because when he's out he always finds a blanket and falls asleep! They're such cute creatures...I love it when they have their mouths open, running down the hallway together, hopping. Durga (the deceased one) and Bandit used to do that all the time. They were like brother and sister. In fact, when Durga died, he would rattle the cage ALL DAY. He never used to do that - so we put one of my brother's shirts in there and he calmed right down. I guess he really missed her big butt, in a sense. ETA: Bandit is looking pretty bad. We're putting him down tonight. I hate this feeling. Cry

We had a ferret that had Insulinoma, she was on daily meds near the end. Her seizures would be pretty severe, it was sad. She was the most loveable of all the ferrets we've had. Our most energetic one is our male sable, Rex, he's a maniac! The quietest one now is a young female silver one, Lilly. Rex...

How sad. Sad When our ferret Bud passed, it impacted everyone in the family. For such a tiny creature she sure had a big place in our hearts!

I guess that is probably the worst part of having a ferret is the fact that they are so prone to health issues. Adrenal disease, cancers, tumors.....they have a long list of things they are prone to. Lauren I am sorry to hear about Banditl. At least you are doing what's best for him and not letting him suffer. With Tara (my female with adrenal) it was really sudden as well. One day she was her normal self and the next she wouldn't even come out of her sleeping bag to visit me. It's tough but you are doing the right thing. I cried like a baby in the vets office when he was explaining what they were going to do. He offered to let me hold her while the shot took effect but there was no way I wanted to see that. It was a lot tougher than I thought it was going to be. Sorry again to hear about your little one

Lisa, don't be sorry! I still love talking about pets...no harm done. Michelle, thank you. Your ferret is beautiful! Mine was a chocolate sable, I think. Durga was a champagne point. They're ALL gorgeous. Mike, thank you. We knew that once he wanted to curl up in a ball and sleep even when he was out and about in the house...it was time to let him go. I cried like a baby when the vet came in, gave Bandit a billion kisses (he only woke up when I kissed his head...he hates that haha) and asked her to make sure he was comfortable in the box we brought him in (which turned out to be his coffin). My brother took it hard since he picked out Bandit almost 6 years ago. It's like losing a family member. I'm not going to dwell on when he looked haggard...I'm going to remember the 5 other years he was healthy and energetic. I feel like it's the right way to remember him.
