Asics Shoes...Why NO Discounts? (Read 991 times)

So, I am shopping for some new Asics Nimbus 11s.........been running in this model for several years and recently tried a Brooks model.  While the Brooks are fine..........well, every time I put on my Asics in the rotation I just cannot believe how great they feel.

It seems as if many shoe models you can find at discount online.  However, the current Asics Nimbus 11 doesn't have ANY discounted prices, well, ANYWHERE!!!  All online stores, big retailers (virtual and bricks/mortar), and even local running stores don't sell them at any different price..........all at $124.

I would be fine with the Nimbus 10s, but even those are running out of supply at local shops and even online.

So I am curious......why are some brands/models regularly sold at a large range of prices whereas this model seems to be really FIXED in cost no matter then retailer?

In it for the long run..

There are always coupon codes available for Roadrunnersports.com  (There is one on letsrun.com) which will usually give you at least 10% off plus, often free shipping even if you aren't a VIP member.

Holabirdsports is one of the ones I looked at.........and, NO, they are selling at no cheaper than anywhere else.

I don't think I will buy anything from Roadrunner Sports.......their CEO is a douche bag about the whole barefoot running thing.  Sorry, he just sounds like an ASS!

MikeyMike, I know your answer is probably the most accurate.  My wife runs a company that does womens apparel and she tells me of the pressures they have and how exacting pricing is to what is moving these days.   I think they just have the right number, for the going price, and Asics can just demand the sales price/margin of their retailers.  So be it.......

I don't know what the heck you're looking at, but right before I posted Holabirdsports was selling the Nimbus 11 for $104.xx.  Look again.

Have you checked Kelly's Running Warehouse?  I often see deep discounts there and shipping is only $5, I think.

Yep.  Plus free shipping and no sales tax if you're not in Maryland.

I agree. I don't consider 10% off or something similar to be much of a discount, considering I can get the older model Brooks Adrenalines for consistently 60 bucks or so. I guess Mikey is right...they just don't need to discount that much due to the demand for them. Their older models just seem to disappear. I've never even been able to find a "good deal" on the Nimbus on Ebay, and I look pretty often. I'm too cheap to pay anywhere near full price, so I have only bought one pair of Asics that I found on clearance at a local running store last year.

Have you added the shoes to your cart?  Most stores don't advertise their true price until it is in your cart.  I think there is some sort of agreement about advertising discounted prices.

                      Prince of Fatness

I used to run in the Nimbus and really don't remember the current year's model ever discounted that much.  I always seemed to be able to get them on discount once the next year's model came out (although many times the window of opportunity was small).  Most times I got them for around $75.

The trick for me is to always be ahead of the curve and on the lookout for bargains.  I'll buy shoes when I see them on sale and not just when I need them (I have a couple of pair in my closet now and won't break them out for a couple of months).

I don't know what the heck I was looking at either!  I didn't follow all the way to the shopping cart and just saw the MSRP.  Thanks for pointing this out.

As others have said, I most often try to buy the older model (closeout) Nimbus when I can find them.  Most often I can just find them at my local Sports Authority or on some of the regular websites.  I have been trying to find the Nimbus 10s and places seem to be out of my size/width......thus pushing me into the more expensive current model. Oh, well, looks like Holabird will at least get a few bucks off.....and delivery to my doorstep.

                              Thanks for the input everyeone!
