Calling early morning runners... (Read 3082 times)

It's a lot easier to be a morning person when the sun's actually up.  Mid winter is a tad challenging.

As for running mornings or evenings...I do both whenever I can.

oh yeah that guy.  The polyphasic sleep guy.  "How to become totally sleep deprived and convince yourself that you have more energy and feel better than ever!!!" guy.

I should qualify that with if I do a short easy run  I do have more energy afterwards. But, after a hard work out what I really want to do is take a nap... not work.

I've been doing good on my own the past few weeks. Has anyone tried this: http://www.sleeptracker.com/

If so, how does it work for you?

Is there a way we can keep track of PRs, such as most hours slept in a day or least number slept in a week?

This is what makes the clock/lamp Dutchie42 mentioned earlier in the thread interesting. It gradually lights up (artificial sunrise). No good for me though as I don't think my wife would appreciate me waking her up at 4am...

How to be an early morning riser

                  -Go to Bed early

                  -Then wake up early

                  Thank You

                   That about covers it.

Go to bed earlier.  Tell yourself that unless you get up and run, you probably will not get a run in that day ( for me that is very true)

I want to revive this thread and ask about longer early morning runs. For those of you out there putting in ten miles before work, how are you handling that? Are you eating before you head out for the run? I need to start getting in my midweek medium long run before work, but I am wondering how best to handle it.

I nearly always run before work, even mid-week long runs. I just get up and run. No food.

But, I snack a lot at night so I'm not famished when I wake up.

I run 8 (sometimes 10) miles before work most days.  I don't eat beforehand and that doesn't seem to give me any problems.  I usually swallow a few gulps of water before heading out the door, but that's it.

I always eat a substantial dinner, and often round it off with a large bowl of cereal.  Once I get to work I eat an enormous bowl of cereal and a banana.  I get hungry by about 11AM all the same.

You need to make it like a habit, it will get easier each time.

I can't stand running early. Just can't do it.  I like a coffee, some breakfast, browse the internet while waking up and then heading out.  I perform better. I can't run when half asleep and I can't sleep when I am half running

I can get up at 3:30am for an alpine start when hiking or climbing though!!  Done that heaps!

I don't eat before my morning run.  I am usually out by 0530 and tend to run between 10 and 16 miles each morning. Most days it is 12 - 14 I guess.  I get to my desk by 0800 and eat an apple/banana and a sandwich, have a cup of coffee and get on with my day.

There is nothing complicated about running in the morning.

And not one of them was prepared, truly prepared to believe that it had not so much to do with chemicals and zippy mental tricks as with that most unprofound and sometimes heart-rending process of removing, molecule by molecule, the very tough rubber that comprised the bottoms of his training shoes.
