My doomat dog is part boxer and part leopard hound. Sweet, Lazy, and when the kids were little he was highly tolerant of all their nonsense. I've been told by many people that boxers are good with little ones - hound dogs are too sleepy to be bothered by much.

We have a beautiful sable and white collie, Ranger (although everyone refers to him as Lassie). He's a great pet, except that he barks constantly when we leave him outside. We've tried different bark collars (shock and mist), but they don't do a thing. Several years ago, our elderly neighbor showed up at our door waving a letter of complaint he'd already sent to our town about Ranger! Uh, gee, you could have mentioned it to us first! So since then, it's nerve-wracking to keep him outside at all. This neighbor loves to find things to complain about - no one can stand the guy. I keep thinking he'll move to a retirement home, but no luck so far.

Is he part Catahoula leopard? Our two mixes both bear resemblances, although nobody can say for sure. The girl (left in my profile pic) has these beautiful spots, but I guess it's hard to say for sure with them, spots alone don't make one a Catahoula. All I can say is WHEN DO THEY GET CALM?!?! I can't wait!!! They're both around 1-1.5 and still very crazy.... 1-2 hour of walking/running + 1-2 hours of romping together in the big fenced yard, and then they are semi-well-behaved citizens in the house.

I grew up around collies, my parents have always had them. Yep, they're all barkers! The girl they have now is exceptionally non stop with the vocalization. I remember a few threats from the cranky neighbors when I was a kid. Such sweet dogs though!

Well my first post here but it's on something I know something about. My wife and I have a 1 1/2 year old Alaskan Malamute, she is my skijoring partner (cross country skiing behind a dog). My profile pic is Izzy and I in our first race this year. After that I am hooked and that's why we are getting another one this summer. For any Grey's Anatomy fans out there, we will have a George and a Izzy after he joins the team.

Perfesser -

Amazing how the ears change the image. I wouldn't pass up a chance to pet the three on the left, but that one on the right - no way on God's Green Earth that he (or she) is EVER letting me get close enough.

The one with cropped ears is the old, sweet one. You're right, the ears really make a differrence.

My goofball of a dog was a freebie out of the newspaper - we saw his mom who was called a leopard hound by the owner. We had to assume the boxer part - it wasn't a hard leap since his markings are exactly boxer markings. He's been lazy since the start. He's 12 1/2 now - just a good old boy who resembles a large paper weight.

We are settling with another beagle. We used to have a beagle a few years ago, and were not ready to get another after we parted with her. We also have a toddler which is also why we are not getting a too big a dog, but a dog with a big heart. Thank You again for the re:'s. the dobermans would be nice too, but too much and too intimidating for little kids.

This is my pooch, she's a mutt, not sure what breed or anything. I used to run with her before she got too fat. *sigh*

This is our dog, Bob Roll eyes (this isn't really a picture of our turtle, but we do have this kind).

We can't have animals with fur in our house due to allergies so instead we have Bob (turtle) and Draco (bearded dragon), and some fish (they don't have names).

Eventually I would love to have a Siberian Husky or a German Shepard.

(these dog threads always make me sad since we can't have one)

Buddy on the left is a catahoula. Sheila is some sort of mix (possibly lab/Australian shepherd):
