New Garmin Forerunner 305 for Christmas.....anyone else? (Read 517 times)

Santa brought me the GPS and I used it yesterday and love it!

I think I should get college credit if I ever figure out all of the functions and get thru the instruction book. I can't tell if there is any way to log activities other than running and biking on the Garmin Training site. Anyone help me with that? Also, I'm a CoolRunning refugee so I'm still learing this site too.

Since I crosstrain in addition to running I guess I'll have to log in workouts here and in my Garmin log.

Any other 305 users have hints, tips, tricks, etc......?

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I got a 305 as well. It is very cool. I use http://www.motionbased.com/ to track my workouts. I haven't figured out all the bells and whistles either but I did mangae to use the heartrate monitor yesterday. Thankfully I am married to a super geek and he helps me with my electronics.

If my Garmin battery is dead, I usually just turn around and take the day off. Very sad.

Good thread here

The best software for the Garmin IMO is sportracks. It is donation ware so there is no risk in trying it out.

I ran a mile and I liked it, liked it, liked it.

I got one too and once I worked out the bugs I love it!! First thing you want to do is update the software on the Garmin itself. Go to www.garmin.com and look for downloads/updates. Be sure to download the Software Update first - it should be 2.80.
Then download the GPS update - which should be 3.0.

You can check yours by going to "Setting" and then "General" and then "About Forerunner". To see what versions you currently have on your unit.

After updating the Forerunner itself, you will also need to up date the Training Center.

I am still playing with all the little features - trying to figure out my heart rate too - but I love it!!

My wife bought me the 205 and it is great! It gives me a sense of freedom when I'm running outside because I don't have to stick to a predetermined course (which I measured driving my car).

So much snow today that I couldn't locate the satellites... had to use my watch instead. Angry

Ouch, I just updated the training center and my workouts are missing now.

Anyone have an idea where the old ones might be?

I just updated my training center the other day. I think one of the new features is user profiles. When I upgraded, its asked some question about what to do with the old workouts (i.e., which profile to store them under). Did it ask a question like that to you? How did you answer?

Va, thanks. It didn't ask me a question but I found there was a associate existing user.

The mrs and I both got 'em, Santa came early as we found them on sale in November and didn't want to wait to use them!

Jason, I left my Garmin by the window while I was getting ready, connected no probs here - even with the heavy snow. Have you tried that? It does not like connecting when not sitting still.

Yeah, I just got my 305 for Christmas and immediately went to work finding a better application than TC. I've been using Sporttracks since then and have liked it a lot.
