Had a goal of 59:59 for the 7.5 mile run. The results? 58:15!!!! Big grin Big grin Big grin Big grin Big grin WOO HOO!!!!!!
Goal: drop from 186lb to 165lbs
Goal: drop from 168lb to 160lbs
Current weight: 168lbs

Heh, thank you. Is their a post-race report template I should follow? Wink. Wouldn't want to use bad form or violate some kind of etiquette. Big grin. Only thing I'm using ice for today is keeping the Harpoon IPAs cold. Cool

No template, but your line on just using ice for your beer today is good stuff. Whatever you think your fellow RAers would be interested in. Degree of effort required to beat your goal, shapely ladies you tried to run after, race organization, encouragement provided or received on the course, would you run it again, how you handled today's 87% humidity...

My full race report. As I wrote before, this was my first real race. There was a 5K, a 7.5 miler and a team relay. I seeded myself in the 8:00mm blocks. There were 1096 runners in the 7.5 miler, I placed 218 overall, with an official time of 58:21. That's 34th out of 96 40-49 year olds. That's a slow time since there was no mat at the start, it was timed from the gun and it took me a few to get to the start. It's a nice course along the Charles River in Cambridge and parts of Watertown. It was VERY muggy but the sun stayed in the clouds the whole time so not too bad. They only had one port-a-john at the start line so that made some folks unhappy. All the johns were at the race expo a 1/4 mile up the street. My target was 8-minute miles and finishing under an hour. So when I hit the first mile marker and had run a 7:30 first mile I was actually a little worried that I had started too fast. I slowed a bit and did a 7:45 second mile. At that point my shins were sore and very tight and I was really worried that I had started too fast and that I'd have to slow to a crawl. They really hurt. But after mile 3, the pain just kinda vanished and I picked it up. I started passing the group of people I was with (regrettably passing the cute girl I ran behind for almost 3 miles) and caught a few people that started in the 7:00 mm blocks. At 5 miles I felt great and was really cruising. I started my last mile kick a litle too early though and started running out of gas with 1/4 mile to go and got passed by a couple people near the finish. Overall, for my first real race, I'm really happy. Now I'm on vacation this week, resting the shins a little and then start my half marathon training. (Boston Half in October).
