1600 miles
5k < 25
10k< 55
HM < 1:55
Marathon < 4:00

And of course you could also use the first one as a training run, keeping the second as your goal race, if you were worried
This would be my recommendation, too.
Unless you feel really in shape in which case you could just race them both. I would be surprised if you did better in #2 as a strong race #1 will take a lot out of you.
