2 half marathons 2 weeks apart? (Read 353 times)

I am already registered for a half marathon on May 2, but found another one on April 18 (2 weeks before) that I'd really like to try -- it's more local, has a great course with crowds and music and supports a good cause. Am I crazy to think about this? I have run marathons and half marathons before and am comfortable with the distance; my long training runs are typically between 12 and 17 miles. But do I need more than 2 weeks to recover from the first one before doing a second?

    2012 goals:

    1600 miles

    5k < 25

    10k< 55

    HM < 1:55

    Marathon < 4:00

No, not crazy at all. One rule of thumb is one recovery day per mile raced. And of course you could also use the first one as a training run, keeping the second as your goal race, if you were worried.

This would be my recommendation, too.

Unless you feel really in shape in which case you could just race them both.  I would be surprised if you did better in #2 as a strong race #1 will take a lot out of you.

        What does Tunis make?

I'm no expert (far from it), but I imagine that it's harder if you plan to run both hard, and depending on your mileage. I'm running two marathons in the next two weeks, but figure I'll take at least the first one fairly easy.

It's a 5k. It hurt like hell...then I tried to pick it up. The end.
