Here's my recap, sorta:
October 2007..............went out too fast at Portland for my conditioning, blew up. 4:22 or something like that.
May 2008.....................PR marathon in Eugene, 4:12. Did best I could despite carrying a piano in the last 5 miles.
October 2008............. went out too fast at Hartford for my conditioning, blew up. 4:23 or something like that.
March 2009............... Napa marathon, got sick 3 weeks prior. 4:19
July 2009...................Sauvie Island (portland), got sick 4 weeks prior. Hot day. 4:20 or so.
Dec 2009..................Macau marathon, got sick 5 weeks prior. Humid and polluted. 4:19 I think.
Looks miserable, but I've had fun in the process. Staying out of sick bay in the final stages of training might be my best strategy. Oh, and I should sheepishly mention that my mileage has always been lackluster. BQ for me is 4:00.
This might be a dumb question but can you BQ at Boston? Is that what jhallum just said he did because that would be neat!

According to marathonguide.com Boston has the highest percentage of BQ times, which makes perfect sense when you think about it. In 2009, 43% of the Boston field ran a qualifier. Boston isn't a great BQ course with the Newton hills but if you can control your pace in the first seven or eight miles it can certainly be done. I had a couple minutes to spare in '09 and that experience helped me make it with plenty of room this year.
I have also run the second and third courses listed, MHRM and Baystate are both fast courses that are well supported, and would offer an excellent chance for a BQ attempt.
The Boston Athletic Association Marathon is a great day in the running world, good luck to all who are trying to qualify this weekend!

Here it is!! Race week in Pittsburgh. Other than a few weather interruptions in February and some early Runner"s knee symptoms which cut short one interval workout, I've hit my key workouts and mileage goals, and I feel ready to go for this Sunday.
The indicators say that I have a real good shot at a BQ.
Yasso 800's-3:01 average
30k race-2:15 on very tired legs. I had done a 21 mile training run 5 days previous to this race plus a mid week tempo run
5k-19:15 a few weeks ago.
If this data is correct, I have a good shot. As we all know , there are a ton of variables in a marathon. I'm hoping they all break my way on Sunday.
Best of luck to the rest of you racing this weekend!!

What does your qualifying time need to be?

Sorry. 3:10
No problem. I put you in for Monumental too (not that I believe that you'll fail in Chicago).

After thinking, a bad thing, I've decided to give it a shot.
Need 3:20 @ Poconos Marathon on 5/16/2010
I probably have no business going for it but it's an aided course and I'm feeling pretty good after 5M today. Why not go for it, even if it's my first?
Henry, good luck for a good finish time. I ran the Pocono race last year and the first part is definitely downhill. But there are some uphills worth mentioning in the later miles. The elevation profile didn't show the uphills well enough. If you are not familiar with the course, it is probably worth your time to drive it if you can. I did that and still under estimated those uphills. It is a nice race.. I was struck by the words of a race volunteer who thanked us for supporting the Red Cross by running the race - she said they saved her son's life.
Thanks for the well wishes. I'll try to drive it but I'm coming in from out of state and I'm not sure how much time I'll have. I've pulled up the course from mapmyrun and exported a CSV file of the elevation profile which I graphed out by mile in excel. I see that there are some hills that are there, that are tough to see on their PDF. So I've been thinking about them.
Run like a kid again!
Please change from the PIG to Indy Oct 16th 2010.
Failed at the PIG 3:24:53. Will BQ at Indy. No doubt in my mind!!!
