Hail to The Victors!
Go Eugene runners superbad & ratherbe! The weather will be OK. The flowers are blooming and ready for you (the dark blue Delphinium in some shady parts of the course is especially nice). *
Local hype about the upcoming marathon has been ursurped by UO basketball news, however...sorry about that.
*I bet you didn't expect a floral forecast for your marathon, but there you go.
Prince of Fatness
I requalified at Boston with a 3:13:12. I was a part of last year's thread last spring, but haven't been hanging out much lately.
Sorry dude, but rules are rules. If I change it now it opens the floodgates. Congrats on your marathon!

Major 2012 race: NYC Marathon
This thread seems to be relegated to just updates on upcoming attempts and recent successes. It's be cool to hear from some of the participants as to how their training is coming along and what it consists of.
I'm planning to start my official training on June 14 for an 18 week buildup. On May 30th I'll be running a goal half marathon that will hopefully provide some degree of prediction for the October marathon. That gives me two weeks of recovery before starting my training. Currently I'm running weekly mileage in the mid 40s. On Sunday I did a 17 miler (longest in 1.5 years) at an 8:33 pace that felt easy and from which I recovered easily.
I won't be following a published plan... I wrote up a loose plan for myself that includes a weekly hard run (tempo, steady state, whatever), med-long and long. Mileage will peak three times at 60 mpw with an average of 51mpw. There are 3 x 20 mile runs, 2 x 18 milers and endurance relays in August (100 on 100) & September (Reach the Beach). I'm planning just a two week taper. This is still looking pretty far into the future, so the actual runs may well vary depending on how things feel at any given time.
Any thoughts? What are the rest of you doing?

What the heck.. let's throw my name on the board.
I've read a lot of race results stalked a lot of logs and many runners with a bigger base than me have failed to hit 3:10 but I've done my training and put my money in the bank now its time to make a withdrawl.
May 2, 2010 Flying Pig Marathon goal time 3:10:59.
Using the race calculators and my 1:29 HM time from March, I *should* be able to muscle this out. Either way, I'm going for it.
yes, i'm really that slow.

This might be a dumb question but can you BQ at Boston?
Is that what jhallum just said he did because that would be neat!

Sure, you can requalify at Boston.
My marathon training doesn't start until the end of July. I'm trying to get up to 45 mpw this month, and then hold steady at 50 mpw until training starts. My most recent half marathon time gives me a BQ on the VDOT calculator and McMillan. I need a 3:45, but I'm thinking of trying for 3:40. That would be a 7 minute improvement, though.

RINate, thanks for bringing us back to the purpose of the thread, and kudos to MrPH for hosting it.
My training data are similar, but my prediction race will be a full marathon on June 5th. My BQ target race is Oct 10 (Royal Victoria).
I'm also running weekly mileage in the 40's, and am starting to run the occasional mile under BQ pace without realizing it (not overtly pushing the pace). I think if I am to BQ, I have to have run lots of miles that are accidentally BQ pace... I am increasing my mileage by 10 miles each month.
January............130 miles
February..........140
March..............150
April.................160
May..................160 miles
June, tune-up marathon, 140 miles
July.................170
August............180
September.....190 I guess I won't be getting up to the 60 mpw level, but oh well, maybe 2011.
FWIW, I've been notching up my marathon game recently, and something that seems to work fairly well for training marathons is to run them a little like fast finish long runs: try to run the last 13 at goal pace.
I'll be running a marathon on June 5 too, but I bet I'm doing the other one in the PNW (green river) so I'll wish you good luck here.

Hi Hippo!
A lot of people are rooting for me? (Because I've been at this stupidly impossible heroic quest for a few years now?)
Try to run the last 13 at goal pace is what I had planned to do this cycle, but reality got in the way. It's a great signal of preparedness, IMHO. I'll get there, I'll get there...
I promise you this, though. I'm going to PR on June 5th.
Run like a kid again!
