Persisting ankle pain (Read 49 times)

I am a female high school runner. I've been running around 30-40ish miles a week on average. I took a good 2 week break after track and eased into the mileage but around mid June my ankle started to hurt a little. I thought it would go away after a couple of days but it still hurts some. It is on the outside of my ankle and normally hurts the first couple of steps when I'm running but then usually goes away while running but it then starts to ache after I run. The longer and harder runs cause it to ache more and longer. Sometimes I don't feel it at all afterwards. I normally wear KT tape and a compression ankle brace on it. I've been to 2 different trainers and they say my ligaments are fine and gave me calf stretches to do. Its been over a month and it hasn't gone away and has started to bug me a little more and ache longer after runs and causes me to limp some. Any advice?

Take some time off and see if it returns.  Continuing to run on it seems to be making things worse.

When you say "trainers", I'm not exactly sure what you mean, but I would suggest seeing a specialist--orthopedic is probably your best bet.  They'll probably be able to give you a better answer.

There was a point in my life when I ran. Now, I just run.
