RoadRunner
Wow! This was my best race ever. It was extremely windy going out. I tried to stay tucked in as much as possible. My legs were burning but my lungs were fine. With the wind at my back and I was under 69 minutes at the 10 mile mark, I put the hammer down. Finished with a 1:28:59. That was more than a 12 minute PR. I knew that I was going to break the 1:40 barrier, but 1:30 is unbelievable.

Great time Bill! I ran the 500 Festival Mini Marathon yesterday also and PR'd by about 2 minutes at 1:41. Next year my goal will be sub 1:40 but hopefully I can do the same thing you did and skip the 1:30's all together!
The wind at our backs on the way in felt great! Congrats on the fantastic race.
great run Bill... based on your 5k time you should have been around 1:32 or 1:33 from what I can figure but that is a best case scenario. You may just be peaking right now from alot of running?
I ran 7 miles this morning in 58:16... 1st half in 30:08, 2nd half in 28:08.

10 days out from my first "attempt" at 1:39:59. Business travel and vacation have really played havoc with my training and had me feeling like 1:45 was more likely. However, yesterday, in perfect conditions I ran 12.7@7:47/mile so I am thinking I definitely have a shot at it.
I don't think the gap between my "ability to push myself" on a tempo run and the "race day adrenaline" is as big for me as it is with some people. But if the weather stays cool and I'm having a good day, I just may be able to find another 10s/mile to get it done.
Way to go Bill!

A 20 minute closing 5k. Great work

The year of base
Late to the party, but still something of nothing to report. I ended up running a 1:42:55. Just off my goal. I did however, have a huge PR.
Last year July half 2:11, this year May half 1:43.
Wonder what that means for my marathon times?
Last year Oct full 4:11, this year Oct full ???? (I will be shooting for 3:35)
Goals: Run 1400 miles
Marathon: sub 3:45
Half marathon: sub 1:40
10K: sub 42:00
5k: sub 20:00
Bill and Triangle- great times!
When you smash your previous best times like that its a great feeling of achievement.
Beware, batbear...
Fitness test update:
I'm still a little behind the 1:40 HM as that pace would put me at around 1:45 for a half marathon and my goal race is quite a little bit hillier than the Biltmore - but the race isn't until September and the good news is I feel like I'm within shouting distance!
I've got to:
1.) Stay healthy.
2.) Stay consistent.
3.) Keep working on endurance.
I really dropped off pace at about mile 7.5. Partly this was due to a fast start, but mostly I think it was do to the tech theatre work I was doing yesterday which had me sitting in a squat position for about 3 hours. My glutes/groin were sore from the get go today.
I'll be pulling together a more cohesive race report later on for any who are interested.
2012 Goals:
1. 1100+ miles.
2. Streak starting in March or April if I'm healed.
3. 100 Push up challenge to get some upper body strength back.
4. Get weight under 180 by the end of the summer.
5. 1 or fewer alcoholic drinks 4+ nights per week every week.
6. Concentrate on 5K distance and September HM.
7. Have fun!
slowly upping the miles here. replaced my weekly 18km run with a tougher corse this week - and a longer one; 24km. It looked as though it was going to rain so instead of driving to the 18km course i do which is 20 mins away I just stepped out the front door and ran a course i knew would be over 21.1km. The first approx 12.5km was into a tough head wind but I managed to turn around in 59 minutes. I thought with the wind behind me the final 11.5km would be not too bad but I did fade towards the end (not too badly) to come in at 2:02
Hurt a bit as the course was tough and hilly in places and the longest run I have done all year, but a good piece of training. Speed is a bit hard to judge on this type of course where you are having to cross busy roads/ look out for traffic and cope with general interuptions you dont get on a race course.
I've got to: 1.) Stay healthy. 2.) Stay consistent. 3.) Keep working on endurance.
Yes, I think patience and consistency are key to distance running. Discipline and no excuses attitude. It is a selfish sport and it is an ego sport. You have to be prepared to cut ties, go alone and do what you have to do
Brooklyn Half Marathon - 5/22
1:40:18 - oh so close!
This is a big PR and I feel like I ran the best race I could today. Missed the goal, but still very happy!!

Ooooh! So close! Good job!
I am still on the list but I'm not sure when I will be running my next half. I am running one Dec 5th in Vegas. 2 marathons in Sept and Nov. Anyway, my PR is 1:40:27 from last Oct. I ran the PGH half with only 5 weeks training following hip stress fx. My time was 1:44:53. I was thrilled just to be able to run. I was strong and uninjured at the finish. Can't say that about my Oct race. So, I feel like it is definitely going to happen sometime this year.
Tapering begins today with a cut back long run (down from roughly 22km to 15km). Next week has some 5-10k runs in it, 2 rest days and a 3k tune up the day before the race.
