Goal of sub 18:36 minute(6 minute mile average) and sub 18:00 5k (Read 3422 times)

I've given up all hopes of doing this in 2009. I don't think I'll be racing again in 2009. Just haven't bounced back since my 2:55 in Chicago. No sense in going out and running a 19Tight lippedx 5k. I'll be concentrating on getting the mileage back up in search of a sub-2:50 in Boston (which crazy enough is about 20min 5k pace). My next 5k probably won't be until next summer. little disappointed I wasn't able to translate my Chicago fitness into shorter race PRs.

Yeah it's been a tough year for you dcv, PRs at 4k, 5k, 5 miles, 10k, half marathon and marathon

I like the target sub 2:50 for next year though, that's a bold goal, especially for Boston, but thats what its all about I guess, pushing the barriers!

Alright, sign me up for a sub 18:36 goal.  My first race since 1994 is this Thanksgiving, original goal back in July was sub-19:00, but might as well go big and give the sub 6mpm a go.
        My 2010 goals:

I have the opposite problem.  So, what say I trade your marathon performances for my 5k times?

17:56 at some random Turkey Trot 5K I heard about the night before. It's only been 11 days since the marathon debacle, but I'll take it.

Great result!  I had the same thing happen to me at Chicago 2008.  Nothing you can do about it.

I managed 18:16 in my local 5k turkey trot. It was a course PR and not bad for doing zero 5k specific training.  A sub 18 will have to wait until next year.  Hopefully a winter of training for Boston will be serve me well in the spring.

I want in on the sub 18:00 group for my comeback.  I think it could happen pretty soon, but after the three years off and a slow painful comeback, I need all the motivation I can get getting back into this evil sport.

18:09 on my first try on a hot morning about a month ago.  I'll look for another in the next couple months and see what progress has happened.  (P.S. I got second to a 14 year old kid, my wife still hasn't stopped teasing me)

Good one! Congratulations. I can't imagine doing that 11 days post marathon....

I would have taken a BQ over the sub-18 any day. Still, it's a nice to achieve a milestone when one leasts expects it.

John -- Let's treat the "marathon" I ran with a grain of salt. At best I raced a 25K. Good luck this season!

                      18:04 Last Tuesday Night.

Happy with the results until I plugged in the garmin today.

                      Race Laps

                      Interval 1 Mi 5:39.59 5:39.59 5:40
                      Interval 1 Mi 5:47.15 11:26.74 5:48
                      Interval 1 Mi 5:41.02 17:07.76 5:42

3 of us went out in a pack for the first two,  I felt the second mile slow down so I pushed it back up for mile 3.   Like an idiot I forgot to stop the watch once crossing but I don't think it took me 57 seconds to run a 10th of a mile.

Me thinks the course was long.

Either way I'll take it and attempt the sub 18 at some point during this upcoming cycle of Boston Training.

I'm in for 2010.  This is my "A" goal for the year.

Veronica and I trying this new fad called uh, jogging. I believe it's jogging or yogging. it might be a soft j. I'm not sure but apparently you just run for an extended period of time. It's supposed to be wild.
