Okay...I got the 305. I have used it for one short run, and a bike ride already today. I LOVE IT!! 
Thanks to all for the encouragement, in both my running adventures and with the Garmin suggestion. I just put my niece and nephew to bed. Now I will be reading that manual and playing away!

Then count me in among the addicts! Mind you I received mine the day before I heard about REI's great sale (ack!) but I LOVE it. I can't stop thinking about my next run (even more than before).
