The Gym is a Freak Show (Read 1287 times)

I can wander around this big, beautiful city of mine, which happens to be loaded with lunatics, and not see such a mind boggling assortment of strange behavior as I see each and every time I visit the gym. Today I decided I wanted to lift, and run in less than 17 layers of clothes, so the gym it is.

While doing post-run stretching in the large group fitness room I witnessed a fully make-up laden woman doing a tap routine while talking to herself, a man with his arms outstretched spinning around like a helicopter, a man practicing martial arts, which he obviously picked up from bad 70's Kung-fu movies, a woman jumping rope who would periodically get down on the floor and slither all around with the rope, and just when I thought things couldn't get weirder, in walks a midget bodybuilder in a wrestling outfit.

Where do these people come from?  Im beginning to think that protein recovery drinks can cause hallucinations.

wow, that is just too funny.   now I have some very strange mental pictures in my head.

        Very Twin Peaks-y.

I was the guy doing spinning around like a helicopter.  (BTW It's called vector soul alignment).  That midget was weird right?

            Lol, that was my thought!

My other thought is, I have a boring gym.

            not bad for mile 25

Now they're all talking about the weird chick in the gym who was stretching and staring at them.

I'm speechless on this one.... But I have alot of crazy images in my head now!  :-)

Um. I was doing a weird glute exercise that probably looks pornographic. I usually save it for home. If you can't beat them, join them. Big grin

I know I'm not the only one who has weirdos at their gym. Ennay and I both have 115 yr old Asian women in the locker room that blow dry their hoo-ha's with the hand dryer.

The thing that I find most strange is the people who come to the treadmill - walk for a few minutes (drinking copiously from their water bottle during that time) and then stop and leave. Why bother coming to the gym for that?

Which is why I have a home gym.

I used to have the midget bodybuilder at my gym too.  He had the handlebar mustache like the cartoons of the strong man at the circus.  He liked me.  Liked me liked me.

My gym is very weird.  We didnt get any surge of membership after New Year, but today there were at least 8 people I had never ever seen before (out of maybe 14 people in the gym).  Usually by 6 am, 6:30 at the latest I can get a treadmill, today they were lining up.  Is the Super Bowl the new time for resolutions?

Was talking last week to the owner of the gym I use. There are individual shower/changing rooms, and he and his partner had to deal with some idiot who decided to use hair dye in one of the showers. They managed to track it out of the shower and onto the floor and even get it on the walls.

They also used/ruined about a dozen gym towels to clean up/spread the mess.

Ended up chatting with the owner for a while, listening to more stupid/weird things members have done. Running a small business like this is not for the faint of heart.

I'm missing the fun; everybody I see at the gym acts pretty normal. It will be nice when the new year's resolutioners and college kids trying to get "in shape" for spring break disappear.

and this is why RA is part of my routine, even though I'm not a runner anymore. (almost choked on my lunch)

Any time I go to the gym I'm always reminded of how many people in the world are weird and gross.  It does give you something to talk about though.
