Why so testy? (Read 628 times)

I was having trouble with some tendonitis in my leg and mentioned it to my doc during a routine physical. I told him that it was likely tendonitis because I had it once before and asked for a dose of steroids which worked very well the last time I had it. He wasn't so sure and proceeded to take x-rays and even prescribed a CAT scan. At that point I refused and left the building. Three weeks of ibuprofen eventually made it better but it could have been better in a week if the doc had a thread of common sense. Tom
A few years ago, I developed a swelling on my knee. I went to the Dr.(1st appointment) she sent me for an Xray (2nd appointment) then an ultrasound (3rd appointment) and lastly a bone scan (4th appointment). I then went on to see the Specialist (5th appointment). At the specialist appointment, the Dr. stated I had a broken needle in my knee ligament and it had broken in two. Worse yet he said he was just going to leave it there unless I couldn't walk. Referred back to original Dr. (6th appointment), she said rest it for a week. The swelling went away, hasn't bothered me again and the needle is still there. Bottom line six appointments and I didn't even get a prescription for an aspirin.

      Oh Mighty Wing

I think sometimes it's all in how they treat you. I went to a doctor for knee pain who did an x-ray and an MRI. Said "nothing jumps out at me, you have an unstable knee go to physical therapy" and walked out the door. No real explanation of what was going on or why there was pain. So of course I didn't believe him because he sounded like he was taking a guess but didn't actually know what he was talking about. So while i was contemplating getting a second opinion I went to the PT. The PT concluded the same thing but really took the time to tell me what that means and what was happening and why there was pain. So I think if doctors took the time to tell us what is happening and what things mean and how they knew people would probably not need/want all the tests to prove it because the doctors would actually sound like they knew what they were doing and they actually cared about us and thought about what they were saying instead of just rattling something off.
