Transfer Data to a Word Doc?? (Read 856 times)

NYSrunner

Is there a way to transfer all the data I have inputted(word/sp?) for the past few months into some sort of doc, that I can save onto my computer?? Maybe like into excel?? If not, Eric, is there a chance this could ever happen?
Yep- under your Training Log, click on Tools on the bottom of the column on the left. One of the options will be to download/export your log into Excel. MTA: There are options to either download it Tab Delimited (for Excel) or XML (better for data backup).

I tried doing it both ways and I don't think it really worked. I first tried the XML version and this is what I got. I saved it in my docs., and it downloaded extreamly fast. I clicked open folder and it looked like this. That meant that I had to extract the files. I did that and this is what I got. Sorry for the sizes. Edit: I guess this forum doesn't support pictures...I'll figure it out myself...
eric :)

From the images you posted, it looks like you've downloaded only the XML version of your log. It is a raw copy of your data. You should download the tabs delimited version instead, which you can open in Excel. Word is not the appropriate application to open these files because they are not formated for Word. eric :-)

I tried the tabs version, and what happen was it opened up a page and it said something like... "Cannot view XML input using style sheet, please correct the error and press the refresh button or try again later." Do I save it as XML, or what?
When you extract the tabs folder, it should save both the "log" and "interval" documents as separate text files. Then you should be able to open Excel, go to open documents, select All Documents as the type and click on the log text file. Select delimited as the type and tab as the delimiter and it should open fine.
eric :)

NYSrunner, You need to be more explicit. I cannot deduce what the "it" you're referring to is. Is it a browser? Word? Excel? Also, what operating system and browser are you using? What you should have downloaded was a zip file. When you unzip (decompress) it, it will produce two text files. You can then open them with Excel.

Well I finally upzipped the two, and got the intervals data, and the log data. I went to open it up and both came up in Notepad with all me data, really unorganized. The excel spreadsheet didn't come up like it was suppose too.
eric :)

You need to open it with Excel instead of just double clicking it. These files are formated to be machine readable instead of human readable. Here's what you do. Run Excel, then simply drag the file into the Excel window and the file should display properly.

Thank you very much! Your like a genius at these things!
