Groove and the Mac (Read 748 times)

Any way to sync my PC folders using Groove with folders on a Mac?

    Dave

It would be kludgy but you might be able to run Groove under Parallels or Vmware Fusion and and map the sync folders to a directory that is visible under OS X. Alternatively, it sounds like Microsoft has a technology called "Live Mesh" and there will be a mac client (one was leaked in late July). Do you just need file sync or does it have to use Groove?

I ran a mile and I liked it, liked it, liked it.

Does not need to be Groove.

How about these options then: http://www.foldershare.com/ http://www.cis.upenn.edu/~bcpierce/unison/ Foldershare looks like the easiest solution and will sync up to 2GB in files for free (I think). It has both mac and pc clients.

            Cool! Thanks, I'll play.

Loaded foldershare and it immediately synced the directory structure and the file names in placeholder .p2p files. It does NOT seem to be correctly syncing the files themselves. I will give it more time, but it does not look good at the moment.

Still nothing. Adding a file to my Mac goes right over to the PC. But the files on the PC seem not to go to the Mac...

                Dave

Let me download and play myself. Is it just over a local network?

Yep, local network. Both computers are side-by-side and wired into the same wall. I wonder if I need to specify a port or a password.

I'll make a run at it later tonight.

You can make folders/drives available using a variety of protocols with the OSX control panel. I haven't dinked with it since tiger though. I assume once you got the mac drive mounted you could perform a sync. Alternative--> windows replication software http://www.karenware.com/powertools/ptreplicator.asp modal

Modal, I originally tried the native syncing and folder sharing but it seemed awfully kludgy. Foldersync looks like it may be right, but it ain't working.
This article offers up some syncing options on the Windows side. http://www.geekzone.co.nz/freitasm/3388 Only problem I could see with copying to a Macintosh hard drive is the file system difference. Might run into -unsupported characters -limited file name length

Thanks, I'll look. The Mac file issues you describe, I believe are all gone with 10.4.

OK, I downloaded. Installed on my mac and PC and couldn't get the PC past the firewall issues. If you're running a microsoft built in firewall, that may explain the connectivity issues. I couldn't get past it. Modified: I took a closer look at ifolder. Requires a server. Not ready. Still looking.
