Anyone use DailyMile (Read 2351 times)

When I started running I used Daily Mile, and I found the community encouraging. But I found myself using both Daily Mile and Garmin Connect, since DM didn't keep nearly as detailed run data as Garmin Connect (laps, elevation, etc.). I didn't want to go Garmin Connect only, however, because it isn't social. At all.

Once I wanted to track two different pairs of shoes that I was using concurrently, I ditched Daily Mile and found RunningAhead, and I haven't looked back. I no longer use Garmin Connect, either, because everything I need is here at RunningAhead. RA is not as social as DM, but overall it is a far, far better website.

UPDATE: Someone said that they tracked equipment on Daily Mile. I tried, but it never worked for me. Plus, for all the other reasons mentioned, RA is much, much better than DM. DM is more social, but RA is social enough, and is better in every. other. aspect.

    2012 Goals:

    Get back into shape

Gopher to Badger Half Marathon: sub-1:50

    Twin Cities Marathon: sub-4:00

Keep running post-marathon, through the winter

    Get down to 195 lbs.

If you're using Running Ahead (the premier web site for a running log) why would you ever consider going to something else??

Just doest make sense to me.......

Oh well. It's just a bunch of numbers.

But I also, from time to time, back up my data from my watch onto Garmin Training Center. There my data is secure ... until my computer crashes. And I could print out my logs every month, and then the data would be secure ... until my house burns down.

In any case you might as well upload to garmin connect - it's not really a chore. So the data is always going to be there...

DM =Twitter/Facebook+Running Log.  You follow other runners, they follow you, and you get a stream of the activities of everyone you follow.  When you post a workout (or a comment, link, picture, video, etc), anyone who follows you sees it in their fstream.  Commenting on their workout is equivalent to doing an @ reply on Twitter, or commenting on someone's FB status update.

It's just a running log built around a social network framework.  Forums are very lightweight, but the interface is nice and dead simple to use, very eye-candy-ish.  (Yes, I checked it out.  Just out of curiosity b/c it seemed like all of my Twitter runner followers were on there.  No, I never contemplated switching.)

I suppose if you want to comment on someone's workout, just send them a direct message.

I guess the OP is saying he like's RA's log better, but likes the social network aspect of DM.  Whatever floats your boat.  RA is a log first, where DM is a social network first.  Different, but related beasts.

also DM = everyone says you are doing great.  and they mean it.  and they send you pixels that look like smiley faces and band aids.

I told them woman who's son created the site that it wasn't very good from a technical standpoint for runner but that they had gotten the "facebooky" stuff down cold.  She didn't "unfriend" me.  And she still sent me smiley faces.

RA lets you easily back up your data in tab-formatted or XML data...

Yea I know. I just rarely do that. I'm the kind of person where I would wake up one day with the intention of doing that and the site would have gone down that morning, haha.

How often do you guys do a back up?

                  Eoin

I was on DM for over a year before finding a link on a blog somewhere to RA. I much prefer the functionality of RA. Then again, I work in IT, so that means more to me than eye candy. Sometimes on DM I'd prefer that not all of my runs/workouts were public, but you don't get the option to mark private, like you do here, so I just don't put everything on DM.

I was using the Garmin sync on DM but found it pretty glitchy and had to delete all runs/cycles older than 1 month to get it to work. Not nice.

I now use RA first and DM second, as a backup.

I set up a calendar reminder to back up RA every week.

I messed around with an el cheapo (by comparison) running log that the local elites and my coach use.  But it quickly fell out of favor with me as too much extra work.  Let the coach manage a few extra clicks of the mouse, I say.

Yes, I do "run in this."  So should you.  The weather is never as bad as it seems from behind your office or car window.

I use DM because of the social aspect. RA is my main running log site, and I began using RA because of the Garmin integration. Once I upload my GPS data to RA, I log on to DM and enter a "How did it feel?" textual description of the run, copy/paste the run duration and length, enter avg/max HR and tick off the equipment (though that's buggy). I do like the smiley-face rating.

Basically, DM is a "lightweight" way to share my runs with a bunch of other people that use DM and aren't up for the more hardcore feel of RA. However, I need the capabilities that RA has and I feel that RA is much more precise (DM likes to round up daily mile reports nearest mile.. sucks when you ran 5.4 and it just shows 5).

It's kind of a pain to enter the data in both places, but with DM there's a chance that people I know will see my runs and comment on 'em or I will see their runs (because your friends' runs show up "in yo face" right there when you log in).
