Whew. I was down in the basement with a flashlight and an industrial size jar of mayonnaise. Just in case this was the apocalypse. Good to see the world's back as it should be. And that's a yes on the k-cubed. Let's do it. Slowly.

I get really pi$$ed at the fact that we get 'hothouse' tomatoes IN THE MIDWEST--EVEN DURING GROWING SEASON! Can we not get fresh, outdoor-grown vegetables in the middle of the friggin' farm belt? Well, maybe not. I'm guessing they converted every square inch of farmland to grow corn for ethanol. (Never mind the fact that it takes nearly one gallon of petroleum to produce one gallon of corn ethanol. AND, corn ethanol is about the least energy-laden variant of ethanol. AND, the REAL reason Congress is pushing it is to generate MORE agricultural subsidies, ensuring more votes from the heartland.) Now, what were we talking about...? Wink TC

Contary to popular belief there are less than 200,000 active full time farmers which mean much as far as political power is concerned. http://www.cnbc.com/id/15840232?video=631063822

r2farm--Farm communities elect a large number of Congressmen in the Midwest. Even though the majority of the voters in those communities are not engaged in farming, they are associated with and influenced by farm issues. Nothing against the farmers, though. This whole ethanol thing isn't their idea. I'm guessing it was drummed up by the commodities traders. TC

Although some in Chicago might be sympathetic to grain production ag most would not. Out of approximately 12.8 million people in Illinois 7.8 million of them are in the Illinois portion of the Chicago metro area, add the other metro areas in Illinois and I would guess the number of folks in grain farming areas would be pretty insignificant. In Nebraska we have three house members, my third district covers 2/3 of the land area and most of the ag area and we get one house member. The out migration from my area of the third district is staggering. When I graduated high school in 1977 we had three high schools in my county, now we have one that is smaller in enrollment than my school in 1977. Did you watch the vid?
