I nearly did, but that was just one of the bad decisions I made when I was younger.

It's not too late.  I became a teacher at 45.  Except for all of the political BS that goes on (politicians should NOT be telling teachers how to teach), I LOVE it.  Helping a kid finally GET something they've struggled with is very fulfilling in a way that my previous jobs in R&D and Marketing never could be.

Three days per week............alarm goes off at 3:50...........hit the head..........dress..........stretch.....out the door at 4:20 to meet a friend for our runs.  We keep each other on task and it has helped me over the last year to reach all my goals.  I suggest it for everyone.  Peaceful and quiet........wouldn't trade for anything.  Anyone up for an easy 6.5 miles tomorrow in Arvada, CO (NW Denver suburb)?  ;-)

Seriously???  I have trouble getting up at 6:30 am 2-3X a week.  Then again, you are probably long asleep by now, and I'm still awake.  (11:38 pm)

Yeah, the world keeps making demands on a person in the evenings.  I don't let the computer or TV keep me up any more, though.

Not entirely on topic - but on the running log page we need to add to weather conditions "dark".

This comes up like 20 times a year in the features request forum.  I think Eric is considering a way to add it, not sure if under weather is where he will put it.

I dunno, to me dark is not really weather and I don't really know why I'd track that variable anyway.  I sort of just know that for about 6 months out of the year my morning runs happen partially or entirely in the dark.

In about a month all my Tuesday night runs will be in the dark for the next 6-7 months with a bunch of idiots wearing headlamps.  The good news about these runs is that I can trip and fall on the ice and no one sees me.

mr train you are a pain, your words - they make me go insane

they strike my ever-thinking brain like little drops of acid rain

oh, to my life you are a bane; crazy, mixed up, mr train - r2e

I thought that Mrs Train was making you give up running after Baystate.

I'm my own man, she doesn't tell me what to do. (Heh, that felt good).  Did she give you the impression that she runs our household or something?

Anyway, I'd say that puts it a little strongly.  I am seriously in the hole as it relates to the whole marriage bank account thing, and I'm putting it all on credit cards now with not much repurcussion.  I think what she has to see after Baystate is a shift in attitude away from my OCDness as it relates to running.  I think I'll be fine if I can cut it back to 40-50/week and not have so much of my life revolve around my planning to run, running, recovering from my run and obsessing over my next (and last) run.  Those Tuesday night runs will get greenlighted I'm pretty sure.  After all, she bought me the headlamp.

If I qualify, I have to get back to positive bank account balance before the end of the year so I can start withdrawing again.

I laughed out loud, for real.  Thank you.

You know, Mrs Finn just told me a couple of weeks ago how nice it has been this summer that all of our plans have not revolved around running.  I thought about telling her to STFU but didn't think it would be in my best interest, so I let it go.

That's a nice little strategy, L Train.  We don't have kids yet, but how come you're not playing the "I'm doing it for them...for all of us(!)" card?

Because while Mrs. Train was dumb enough to marry me, she's not that dumb.

She and I agree that running (particularly marathoning) is one of the most selfish things people can do.  Nothing wrong with that, and it does have benefits like having me be healthier in body and mind and being a good example, but there's no escaping that this is 100% about me.  She's fine with that as long as there's a finish line, so to speak.

My wife is still in the 'your doing grate' stage. But hey, it's early yet.
