One of the Swedish wrestling was pissed off he only got bronze so he walked off the podium after getting his medal and dropped it on the mats on his way out. How bloody childish and what an embarassment to his country! The IOC has the medal now.

| This isn't the first time something like this has happend. The 1972 US Men's Olympic Basketball Team still hasn't accepted their silver medals from when they got hosed out of the gold by the Soviets. |

Heros all 12 of the American boys that day as the silver podium during the award ceremony stood empty. Those medals still sit in some vault in Switzerland. Leave 'em there or melt 'em down.

Went and looked it up (being a canuck I'm not all that up on US basketball history). Very dodgy indeed. Those 1972 olympics were quite the event! |

I can clearly remember watching it all happen and still not believing it. I was a huge South Carolina basketball fan back then and Kevin Joyce was on that Olympic team. Although I am still an avid fan of most sports, at the ripe old age of 14, it made me aware that pretty much anything can be rigged.

Not a lesson you should learn that young! I still love sports (I was born the year after the 1972 Olympics) and everyone says I'm so naive for presuming people don't do drugs or cheat etc. I like it better my way!
But man the '72 Olympics were crazy. The hostage killings. The US-USSR basketball thing. No one ever told me before that Spitz had to be taken out of the country early for fear he'd be targetted. Two American runners (who were favourites in their event) missed their event because their coach got the time wrong.

| And the CBC just advised me that at the '72 Olympics, for the first time they had the starting blocks rigged up to alert when people had started the race too early. |
