I did my first ever 20 miler yesterday and it was fantastic.  No major issues, I was well hydrated and brought some Gu.  I averaged a pretty good pace, even with hills (hills are the norm here, I run them 5 days a week).  I was a bit stiff yesterday but I stretched to avoid major soreness. The only thing that is sore today is the glutes (from the hills, I ASSume [heh, ass]), and that's very minimal.  I'm starting to think that I can do this marathon.  Before this, it kind of seemed like a pipe dream.  I'm getting pretty excited. Big grin

Way to go!  That sort of distance is still in the "how on earth can you run that far" category for me

One day I decided I wanted to become a runner, so I did.

Av of the Giants?  cool!!     I'll be there running the HM  May 2   N. Calif, my old stomping grounds,  ran the full way back in 1981 or 82, don't remember.
That's awesome!  Congratulations.  Sounds like you did great with it.   I totally crashed after my first 20 miler and my legs hurt for days!

                      not bad for mile 25

Congratulations!  I'm close to where you are - I'm scheduled to run 20 in a couple of weeks in preparation for my first marathon.  Wish me luck.

I'm going to be doing 20 very soon.  Got my fingers crossed.  Very good work!!

                          So bittersweet,
                          This tragedy
                          Won't ask for absolution;
                          This melody,
                          Inside of me,
                          Still searches for solution.
                          A twist of faith,
                          A change of heart
                          Cures my infatuation.
                          A broken heart,
                          Provides the spark
                          For my determination.

Did you do anything the next day?.  A 20 minute or so recovery jog or even brisk walk would help with this.  At least that is what I have found.

                            Nice work, by the way.

                            Not at it at all.

The day I was stiff was the day of the run.  The next day (yesterday) was totally (pretty much - just the glutes like I said) fine.  And thanks. Big grin

MTA: Although, I did do a bit of walking yesterday and it loosened up what minor soreness I did have.  It definitely helped.

Led and hacker, good luck on your 20 milers.

Starting to think you can do a marathon?!  Girl, you are there!  You just did a 20-miler and if you can do that you can do the marathon.  visualize crossing that finish line and how great you are going to feel.  One of my favorite quotes: "Your body will follow the mind"

You are prepared physically, just keep believing!

                                Good luck,
