UGH! Trying to find an ACTUAL RUNNING TRAIL in Omaha, Nebraska is HELL! I don't understand why finding a trail is such a problem! ARGH!!!!
YOu would feel the same if you live in Houston, TX. I can't understand why some big cities lack running trails.

Same here. Some of the city officials need to be aware of this issue...I think that I'm going to go to my next city council meeting just to make sure that they are aware of this issue...
lace 'em up!
I think they're called fields in Nebraska. There's plenty of them.
You'll ruin your knees!
Hmmm... well, make something happen! The trails here are not provided by the city or the county or the state... they are built and maintained by volunteers. Yep, that means we take time away from running/biking/hiking to build and maintain trails. Many of them are on city/state/federal property, but no tax $ are used to provide these trails. Are there any trail running clubs and/or mountain biking clubs in the area? There is your volunteer base! It just needs a little organizing and coordination...
If there is a park in your area with a few wooded acres, you may be able to work with the city to get permission to build trails there... it really doesn't take all that much (especially for running, the bikers like bridges and stuff, but not neccessary for running).
Go to omahatrails.com you should be able to find some trails to run on. I like to go to Zorinski Lake, its 7.4 miles
around the lake then there are the Papio trails to run and some of the other lakes to, all the trails are asphalt or
concrete.
Turning back the clock one mile at a time
What city is that?
I'm in omaha, Nebraska and I'm hoping to find more places to do my running...

Imma do that, it can't make things worse...as far as Zorinski Lake goes...I'm just getting started on running so I'm afraid that might be too long of a run for me! However, once I get farther into my runs I will DEFINITELY head up there to run.
If we don’t try we’ll never know. At least I can find out how good I can be. I can have an answer at the end of the days, and have a hell of a good time with the process. -Desi Davila

Those don't look like fields! Certainly not the fields I grew up near, and in.
Yea 7 miles is far for me to right now, the lake is in 2 parts, the east side of 168th street is 4.3 and west side
is 3.1' so you can split it up, it can be pretty busy there on nice weekends but nice to look at lake instead of
sidewalks and shoulders, I try to stay away from roads any more do not trust drivers that much I guess I am getting
older I think about such trival things now.
Where do you live in Omaha? I have some good ideas for you. I live in the Papillion/LaVista area. There is a nice short 3.2 mile trail in Walnut Creek. Also, the papio trail goes down to Offet AFB. It is around a 30 mile trail. It is great for running or biking. It is VERY flat and great for a beginning runner. Let me know what part of town you are in and I can help you narrow it down!
I agree the Walnut Creek loop is a good one, and if you need to go longer it connects to the West Papio trail. The Zorinsky Lake trail is also a good one. If you are in the Midtown area, Memorial Park and Elmwood Park are a good place to run. Omaha has a lot of trails, so I'm sure you'll be able to find a good place to grow your running habit.
